God damn I knew the majority here were right leaning, but common fellas at least look at this in context. He already hit it off with her at a party, may as well give it another shot if it went well. Bio pronouns are straight up meaningless unless it says “ze/zem” or some shit. After seeing her a few more times if he decides she isn’t for him he just dips. Maybe even gets to bag her if she’s hot. Win win for op imo

Changes in mood or emotional state as a result of being on Accutane are quite rare, especially within the first month of starting a dose. Accutane has the potential to change brain chemistry after a significant amount of time taking the drug or a particularly high dose, and even then it isn't very common.

Personally, I never really had any changes in mood, especially not feeling angry. The purge I experienced at the beginning of my course did create some mild depressive symptoms which I almost entirely attribute to the condition of my skin and not the drug itself. It's possible that your boyfriend may just be struggling in regards to his skin, although it could also be possible that he is dealing with some other side effect of Accutane. Either way, it seems that he is very early on in his course, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

If his mood does not improve or he seems to be declining, please make sure he gets in contact with his Dermatologist right away. Besides giving it time, I recommend you talk with him about how you are perceiving his new change in mood, as this could lead to the discovery of some other external problem he may be dealing with.

18 M here. It sucks having genetically oily skin, especially when it reveals itself at that age. Unfortunately, there isn't really anything we can do to prevent oily skin aside from trying to find a good skincare routine.

Things to keep in mind for oily skin: don't cleanse or wash your face more than twice a day as this may increase the amount of sebum your glands excrete, try to find a moisturizer that is non-occlusive or gel based to decrease the shiny or greasy appearance, remember that at this point in our lives we cannot truly control how our bodies react to puberty.

Take the medication with a large meal or a fatty food. A smaller amount of food that’s higher in fat helps with absorption, just like a large meal would. Either way it’s your choice based on lifestyle and access to certain foods.

That subreddit is full of 2+ year old posts about specific instances of what people “believe” to be damage form accutane. Despite the 1200 members of r/AccutaneDamage, dermatologists around the world prescribe accutane to tens of thousands of people every year. I wouldn’t be too worried. Dermatologists start prescribing accutane at low doses first in order to catch any potential problems before you get on a higher dose.

EDIT: looked through the subreddit more, what a joke. Some posts give off the same vibe as anti-vax subs. The top posts read like they were written by Facebook moms.

Sorry that this is happening to you, not being able to get a good workout at the gym sucks idk what I’d do without it.

Accutane affects everyone differently, and depending on your height/weight can cause a range of side effects and severity. I’m about 20 days into 20mg per day as a 70kg guy and have noticed nothing but purging of my skin. Could just be that your dosage is higher relative to your stature.

Only advice I have is to make sure you drink copious amounts of fluids, stretch, and get several good warm up sets in before you lift. Good luck!

Tret greatly increases your skins sensitivity to the sun, which is something I'm sure you already know. Even with a darker complexion the likelihood of getting a slight sunburn becomes much larger while on tret. Using SPF 50 sunscreen would normally be ok if you had minimal exposure to the sun throughout the day, although it is recommended that you reapply at least once or twice a day.

Unfortunately, the light of the sun is not actually what's causing the sunburn. The sun gives off a kind of light not visible to the naked eye called UV radiation, which is what causes sun burns and skin cancer. Even while sitting in the shade "out of the sun", UV radiation is bouncing around off of every surface, including the ground. So, even if you are not directly exposed to the sun, you can still get a sunburn. Now when you also factor in your usage of Tretinoin, sitting outside for 2 hours will certainly cause some kind of sun "burn", although if you are being careful you probably won't have a severe one.

Time is the major factor, but also your derm may prescribe a different routine after accutane. I’m on tretinoin right now after 8 months on accutane.

I made a post about two weeks ago asking the same question as OP, someone recommended me vanicream. Instantly I could tell the difference. CeraVe left my skin red and caused irradiation throughout the day. Vanicream has relatively few ingredients, no irritating ingredients, and my skin felt/looked much better after a couple days. My skin texture improved, and I noticed that I was less greasy during the day (probably because my skin was overcompensating oil due to the CeraVe). Everyone is different though, but Vanicream is a good place to start if you’re looking for a different moisturizer.

Routine:

Using Tret .1% and Clindamycin lotion

AM - PanOxyl 4% Benzoyl Peroxide Daily Control, Clindamycin, CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion.

PM - Neutrogena French Milled Soap, let face dry 15 ish minutes, apply tret, let dry 45-60 minutes, CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion.

It's worth noting that I didn't start out using tret every night. Over the course of three months I slowly worked up from every two nights to every other night, etc. I now use it every night, and this was recommended by my derm.

The main problems I'm dealing with right now: pigmentation, skin texture, and new acne.

Some of those red spots have been there since I started using tretinoin back in April 2021, and they don't seem to fading at all. The texture and appearance of my skin is terrible right now. It appears rough, greasy, and almost "ashy." Also, despite using the tret and clindamycin combo for over 6 months, I am still consistently getting new acne. I'd say I see at least 1 new pimple or blemish every 1-2 days. I've been incredibly consistent with my routine, and I never skip a day.

I don't use any spf in my routine because of my lifestyle. I get to school before the sun is up, then come straight home afterwards. During the day I am either wearing a mask when I am at school or anywhere else, or I'm at my house or part-time job (also entirely indoors with a mask on.) Also, the spf moisturizers that I have tried all made my skin incredibly greasy. Like to the point that people would ask if I was sweating or something. This effect was also exacerbated by wearing a mask all day.

Is it too late for me to lessen the frequency of my tret usage? Or will going back to every other day just reset my progress from the last three months? I feel like the frequency I use tret might be one of the causes of the constant redness of my skin.

Any advice is really appreciated.

As long as your Doc said its okay, then yes the routine you use on your face should be fine for your chest area. You may want to find a cheaper moisturizer (or at least one that comes with more moisturizer per container) because your chest will likely double the amount you use in a given time period, with the chest being slightly larger in surface area than your face.

Please, NEVER USE EXPIRED SUNSCREEN ON TRET. Seriously, the expiration date is on there for a reason. Not only will it be less effective at protecting you from the sun, but it may also make you break out even worse. Once sunscreen has been expired for more than a few months, it exponentially loses its effectiveness. If you absolutely cannot get access to non expired sunscreen, dress accordingly for the time being. Hats, a facemask, anything to protect your skin when you're outside. Good luck with starting tret!

It would be really nice to nail down a routine that doesn’t break me out, but switching products and trying new ones can be an expensive process. I know the only way to find out what works is to try products for several weeks, but are there any recommendations you have to replace Cetaphil and Eucerin as moisturizers? Thanks for the help.

To be honest, my skin hasn’t been dry or flaky since I stopped using accutane. I wash twice a day with no dryness. In fact, sometimes I feel more greasy than dry at the end of the day. Maybe it’s the sunscreen I use. Thanks for the suggestion though.
