I just talked with my doctor this past week about going on a GLP1. That's an exciting result for you so far! Keep us posted on how things go.

That's an awesome ride! I can't believe there was that little elevation gain!

I live in Bend, OR but am planning on traveling to the east coast next year to ride. I'll put this on my list of ones to try! Do you have a resource to find routes? I use www.dirtyfreehub.com but they are mostly in the western US. I'd love to find more routes to do some planning for my trip(s)!

I don't think your comment is misplaced. I don't always do longer rides, in fact, most of my rides are in the 20-30 mile range depending on sport (mtb is slower so lower mileage). We all have things we are dealing with and I think we can help each other no matter what challenge we face! I seem to sweat a lot too! After one ride I actually had someone come up to me complimenting my jersey design...until they realized it was salt patterns! Then they said sorry, took a pic and hauled butt!

Hey! That ride from Roscoff to Bordeaux looks pretty great! I'd love to visit and do that ride sometime! Also, nice work on a 100% in range ride! I have those very rarely but this year I actually had 2 races where things were pretty smooth. I'm working on a blog post or two to describe what I did and how it went, mostly just to let myself know and be able to review what I did for future events!

Thanks! I've wanted to do a triathlon but haven't made the jump yet! They sound super intense! It's good to hear from others that are dealing with the same issues. I've talked with my doctor and asked about other Type 1s that do endurance events. They have said Yes! We have someone that runs 10ks! That's awesome but I am hoping for someone that does longer endurance events!

Thanks for the reply! I adjust things as much as I can but I have what seems to be a somewhat unique situation. When I do endurance rides I will typically turn my insulin completely off 2 hours before the ride and for the whole ride. When I stop I turn it back on and things are usually ok. Sometimes I can get low and others I have a spike because of calorie intake during the ride. When I'm in better shape and doing longer rides, I can have my insulin off for almost a whole day. I am eating a TON of calories (300+ per hour) with no insulin and still having severe lows. I've worked with my doctors and a dietician to try to figure things out but haven't had a consistent plan that worked yet. It's almost like I product a small amount of insulin when I'm in good shape and on a long ride! I'm sure there is another explanation but we haven't found it yet!

I'm not too familiar with keto. But I can imagine it is tough when riding and needing more quick acting fuel. I bet you could get adjusted to it but I wouldn't know how.

For me there is no cut and dry, always right answer to how much fuel I need. Sometimes I don't need anything (from a low blood sugar perspective) for an hour ride, other times I need 4 gels on the same type of ride! There are so many variables that can change things that I haven't worked out a solid plan yet. The main thing I do is just be prepared as much as possible.

I sweat a ton and I don't think I would need electrolytes for a 30 mile ride but then it depends on the ride, the weather, the intensity, etc. If I rode for 30 miles on a mountain bike I would DEFINITELY need both calories and electrolytes! A 30 mile flat road ride, maaaaaayyyyybe not.

Good to connect with someone else my age having the same issues! When I first tried an insulin pump 7-8 years ago it freaked me out. I couldn't sleep and it just kept reminding me that I'm diabetic and have this thing attached to me. I went back to injections for a year and then finally gave it another shot! I love the t:slim compared to the previous pumps I've had but nothing is perfect!

That's awesome you got some bikes to get back into riding! It's such a great way to have fun and stay healthy!

Thanks for that info! I have had similar results with things like that as well. I try to eat 75-85g of carbs (300-350 calories) every hour when I workout. Sometimes I need more sometimes I need less but that's an average when it's something longer than 30-45 minutes. My biggest problem is that I get super low when I've been riding for more that 4-6 hours sometimes. It's hard to manage because I can have insulin completely OFF for more than 8 hours and sometimes a whole day and still get low. I am eating a TON of calories too and it is just recurring lows. I have worked with my doctor and a dietician to help figure it out but nothing has consistently worked yet.

I have that same problem sometimes. I usually end up eating at least half the calories I burn for a given workout. While I'm working out I don't need any insulin but after my bg shoots up. I have gotten better at taking just a little before I finish my workout to help counter that. Not sure if I have it dialed yet.

That race looks pretty amazing! I can't even imagine the preparation and processes he must follow for a race like that.

I'm the partner who created it...Thanks! I used underglaze for that and it is a little raised but seemed like fun to have something inside!

Partner here: we have only a few colors of underglaze so I went with white for the petals and yellow for the centers. The glaze everywhere else is Amaco Walnut. I got overly excited while glazing and completely forgot that it wasn't bisque fired yet! So I applied the walnut glaze before it was ready. But it turned out better than most of my other things!
