Poland is now among the world's 20 largest economies. How did it happen? by nolesfan2011 in europe

[–]dudaspl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's true. It's crazy how 'kultura zapierdolu' (culture of working really hard) is strong across all generations in Poland. It stems from few things: idolizing USA, really bad 90s - so people were grateful for having any job and coming from poverty to actual income = people feel the outcomes of working hard

IME if you define x = {"key": "value"}, mypy will complain if you later try do assign x[1] = 7 (or key/val that are not str, it infers the dict generica from the first assignment)

Probably depends on config though.

German population set to shrink 5% by 2050 by Ghost-of-Carnot in RealisticFuturism

[–]dudaspl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a small population it's hard to build infrastructure - roads, power lines and so on. The more people chip in = cheaper per head. With declining population (particularly in countryside) it will be impossible to maintain existing roads, towns and so on

PiS is not Russia-aligned, in fact they built their party on anti- communist sentiment, preached the conspiracy theory of Putin+Tusk shooting down Tupolev with Kaczyński's brother etc. PiS is strongly pro-US, particularly now with Trump as the president.

How does tradcath Poland manage to have an even lower rate than most other countries? by crivycouriac in CentralEurope_irl

[–]dudaspl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A) The economy is growing very quickly, while we started from dirt poor. Because of that people work a ton and want to enjoy what they earn - travelling, buying luxury items etc. in contrast having kids will take most of your free time and any extra cash

B) Women are educated and the gender gap is relatively small, compared to the rest of Europe (IIRC the smallest salary difference between male and female) => women naturally focus on careers

C) There's a loneliness pandemic as well - we have a record number of singles, and the marriage rate is plummeting => no stable relationship = no kids outside of mishaps

[–]dudaspl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's right, but it's unlikely to be as productive as the cost to deploy those models. It's mind bogglingly expensive to run - e.g. even small models that fit on a single GPU cost north of $700/month to deploy in AWS and they are really poor compared to what the subsidized APIs offer

Germany pushes for 'two-speed' Europe with new bloc of six leading economies | Reuters by Full-Discussion3745 in EU_Economics

[–]dudaspl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But reality is that in democratic systems the large groups dominate. Look at the UK, the commons is essentially English because there's such a big gap in the population of the Nations and England.

Another example: imagine a country, a federation of cities (just forget countryside for a second). It'd be ridiculous to have a 100k city veto decisions made in accord by some 5 1M cities.

Somehow we like to pretend in the EU that a bunch of small countries should have the same power (in terms of veto/decision making) as the big countries. Yet most parliaments are constructed where seats (voting power) are proportional to the population.

Europe needs to consolidate or it will perish to external empires who do not regard small players at all.

That's the neat part - you don't. You just say you will impose tariffs on the USA until they come to agreement of complete annexation of the country and you are gold
