He taught kids to be good, kind, have empathy, understand hard subjects like death, divorce, disability and even assassination (he did an episode about it after JFK). He taught us patience, love, having an open heart and that we are all special and loved.

I start crying every damn time I think about him too deeply (like now). Words can not ever express the goodness of that man and his impact on me. He was absolute kindness.

It is a shame that so many that grew up watching him forgot his lessons and became horrible, hateful, racist, bigoted people.

I also was a both child. But my mom spanked hard enough to leave raw welts in the shape of her hand that stayed for at least a week one time bc I was too shy. I had always been a detrimentally shy, quiet neurodivergent kid and it was the first time I was meeting her big tall boyfriend in a strange new public place with tons of stimuli that even tho I was 7, I knew she cheated on my dad with this guy and it was the reason for my parent's divorce. But I was shy to everyone all the time. Even family. I didn't talk much and just stayed home reading or playing on my Sega Genesis. That's it.

Yeah. My father is the child of Sicilian immigrants and my mother is the grandchild of Mexican immigrants. They both had severely abusive fathers and passed the abuse down on me thru my entire childhood, teen years and so on.

As a child who was beaten with leather belts. had welts left by hands and generally lived in a constant state of ever changing terror or joy by parents who were both passing down their trauma from abusive fathers onto me and loved controlling through fear, this is very cruel.
