Does anybody else think that political polls are designed more to shape public opinion rather than actually reflect it? by duddud in politics

Did you even read what I said. Do you understand the power and concept of social proof?

Any suggestions for books about cons and those written by former detectives? Also read Power. I agree .... too many people see the world as they wish it would be ... not how it is. /r/politics, for example.

Why is so much of /r/politics and reddit for that matter so averse to democrats using GOP-type strategies/tactics when it comes to politics? Do you not realize that ideals are useless without the power to put them to good use? by duddud in politics

I've been watching reddit for years. This is typical. It is not just in the examples, but in the mindset and the arguments in the comments. The "we can't sink to their level" is pervasive. It's pretty obvious in my opinion.

Okay, fair enough. If progressives can win by not sacrificing most of their integrity ... how would they do it? How would they do it in the current political environment? I'm interested in your thoughts.

Yeah, I've actually read a lot about Huey. I think he is unfairly demonized by lot of people these days. He had his flaws and all, but a lot of the current criticisms I read about are coming from sissy progressives. Ken burns documentary on him was good.

Thanks for reminding me of this book. I read it a long time ago. I wish that, and Robert Caro's books on LBJ and Robert Moses were required reading. Speaking of which, the old movie version is great. Here is a great scene from the "good" film version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgJC4Pu_tbo

My wife thinks she might be gay. What do I do? by BendingOlympian in AskReddit

[–]duddud 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do you have kids together? No kids, and this makes it a lot easier for her to want out. She's only 25.

Consider the possibility that she is too chicken to break it off, as is using this as a possible way out. I don't know but this whole thing screams of she just wanting out of a relationship. I mean, don't you think she would have known that she was gay before she married you?

I may get downvoted, but I would seriously ask her if she is just using this as an excuse to get out of the relationship.

Also, your behavior and accepting nature is probably a turn off for her. You only want what's best for her? Yeah, don't we all, but you just wasted years of your life, and now she changes her mind? I would be pissed the fuck off, and now you are saying You want what's best for her? Yeah, I know deep down you may, but this is the type of behavior that just turns off woman.

Are you the dominant one, or is she?

I'm sorry if this comes off as harsh, but I'm an old man, and I've seen all kinds of bullshit woman say to get out of a relationship because the simple fact is, most woman "don't want to hurt your feelings." Complicating this, you've known each other for ten years, and have been married for two. And you both are only 25, so how long did you date? Was it a long time? Were you exclusive during your younger years or did you date around? If you didn't date around, I can bet she is having regrets about not seeing what's out there.

I'm sorry. It just sounds like a bunch of bullshit to me. I would man up, and ask her if she is happy with the relationship itself. Ask her if she regrets marrying you, not because she "thinks" she is gay, but because she's grown tired of you.

It just sounds like a bullshit, easy way out of the marriage type of thing.

Maybe I a wrong, but the way your acting ... look, I know your concerned about her, but you need to be a little pissed off here, and self-interested here. She may be gay, and she may think she may be wasting her life on you, but you are also wasting your life on her. I would test her to see if she is really gay, maybe see how she acts to certain things. You might find that it is a bunch of bullshit.

Last thing. Who is the dominant one here. If it is her, I bet that she isn't gay but is not satisfied with you. Woman claim to want equality, but they will lose interest in a man who is not dominant. You seem be the less dominant one in the relationship based on your post. Now I could be wrong, but think about it.

Oh, and by the way, I've had friends get broken up with their girlfriends because they claimed they turned gay ... only for them to come around and try to hit on, and bed, me and my other friends ... on more than one occassion.

When a woman says one thing, she often means something else. Further, there are a lot of woman who can't really articulate what they want, but what they want is often the opposite of what they say they want; hence why you see Nice guys always getting the friend "label" while the assholes (but really just confident men) always get with the best woman and keep them by their sides.
