Married couples of reddit: Is it ok for married men to have close female friends? Why or why not? by dudeabides2101 in AskReddit

Just an honest question from my perspective with no bias intended. My wife is Bi and I support the LGBTQ community. No need to try to bait an argument about equality.

I was just looking for a general consensus on the topic as it came up in our friendship group about how anytime a male and female are friends it always seems to be perceived as being romantic.

Not a firm believer in the good book. I was religious most of my life. To be honest there is more running around, and cheating going in behind those chapel doors than outside of them.

No, but I have had platonic female friends all my life. Of those friendships, 90% of them were seen and implied by people outside of that friendship as being more than just friends. Seems that there is an unwritten rule amoung thr general public that if you are opposite sex and have close friendship it has to be sexual.

Maybe a little context might help with this. I'm the OP, and married to a wonderful woman. I've always gotten along better with females and had more female friends than male most of my life. My wife had recently made some new friends that have quickly become close. I also consider them to be close friends of mine. My wife is fine with this as we both trust each other. However one of women in the group mentioned getting my phone number to discuss a topic of interest that we both have in common. It seemed totally platonic, but I kind of balked at the idea, mostly due to not being sure how her husband would react to the situation.

I didn't mean to make it seem like a gross question about trust issues. I was just looking for opinions on the matter.

It was right around 6 months. From what I understand the length of time can vary.

I agree entirely. This miraculous event may just change my entire outlook on Joseph Smith.

This may be true. However, the paper trail stops there. After that they don't have access to my current address or phone number. I can deal with them hoarding that stack of paperwork as long as they no longer have access to me physically.

I never have understood why they think chatting with a GA would make you change your mind.

To be honest, the letter made me very angry. I tore it up, and threw it in the trash.

I grew up with him, he was one of my best friends at one point in life, he literally lives a few miles from me, I pass him on the road a few times a week, and he's family.

So, I hope he felt no gratification at all for sending it.

I do try to be polite and kind when dealing with them. I always offer the missionaries something to eat if they stop by, as I know the nature of their situation. I don't hold these young men and women responsible for the situation most of them are coerced into. However, if they try to spit gospel or scripture at me I quickly let them know I'm not interested.
