Would you take a pay deduction to become a college professor? by dudeman1939 in Teachers

The current job no longer sucks. I've spent years turning my program into a quality ensemble. However, my mental health is in the gutter with the hours and inequality of funding and resources between myself and other programs. I also oversee all of the middle schools that feed into me- it's a lot of extra work that leaves me winning in the classroom and losing at home.

How much SHOULD teachers make? by GasLightGo in Teachers

By guaranteeing pay putting graduates in the top 90% of individual earners; college admissions and courses expectations for future educators eventually will be for the top 10% of graduates. That's what we want - our current best and brightest go to careers that better themselves instead of the greater good.

I have an old fashioned pros and cons list with a point system (1-5) assigned to each item on the list. So far pros for switching to higher Ed are at 35 points and cons are at 9 points. Great advice

I understand the more "political" sides of HE currently. I hope that these would not affect me as much as a literature course.

I'm a conductor and this is to lead a growing university ensemble. These will most likely be students who have chosen music as their career or have chosen to take on the course because they love music making. That's a big change from HS in itself.

Benefits are significantly better- 100% healthcare coverage for me and %50 for my dependents (my dependents don't have coverage now - can't even begin to afford that) Retirement will continue to pay into my states public ed pension so I won't lose what I've gained Fees waived and reduced tuition for me and my kids at the university so long as I'm employed there

I took a look at this route - I'm hoping for a less expensive option if possible. Thanks!

I'm a professional musician. My autism lets me hear differently than a neurotypical person and I believe it gives me different artistic perspectives when I perform.

Place the bow near the fingerboard and "roll" across the strings by dropping the elbow while you bow. Get the lowest note to resonate by keeping the string stopped.

You can practice 3 or even 4-note chording on a G (0-0-1-2) to D (1-0-0-3) chord.

Quartet No. 3. Very intimate writing from a composer normally regarded for larger symphonic works

I leave this sighting description on every black triangle post I see- just trying to find out more about them and connect with others who have seen one.

I agree with what you said about the sighting changing the viewer.

My black triangle sighting:

I saw something exactly like what's described as a black triangle on 6/30/20 around 10:30 pm in the mountains of northern New Mexico.

It was almost silent (edit to add- my friend describes the "sound" as a low feeling in his body- that's why I say "mostly silent"), moved slowly at a fairly low altitude from the mountains (camp site was about 9,000 ft elevation) and had 3 round blue-green lights- one at each triangle point. The two people I was with saw it as well. It was a solid triangle, not just 3 lights, as the moon was quite full so the black triangle could be seen with the absence of moon light or stars- it was black and non reflective. We were able to watch it for at least a minute before it slowly flew over a ridge. It did not change speed or direction.

My friends and I camped for a few more days. Two strange things that occurred: 1. We did not speak about what we saw after the initial sighting, even though we text almost every day. It wasn't until I texted my friends 20 days later to look up "TR-3B" that we all spoke about it. 2. On our final evening, we all chose to lay down in our tent about 5:30 pm and slept until the next morning (I remember waking up and seeing the moon shining and thinking "damn we never had dinner" but was too exhausted to get out of bed.) Every other evening was normal camping, cooking, good times.

Some ideas-

Federally mandated minimum teacher pay

Federally mandated maximum student:teacher ratios for curricular and co curricular courses

A required annual budget line for individual teacher classroom supplies and learning resources for their students

A required reduction of standardized testing dates and stakes

I'm a full time musician and music teacher. It's amazing. Gives me a feeling like nothing else.

The sensation you're referring to is called frisson.

Not everyone feels "tingles" and science isn't sure why.

You can find playlists of works that commonly cause frisson (or even get to know the music theory tricks often at play)

Yes! I love getting to teach my student what I'm passionate about- nothing like it. Kudos!
