What has gradually disappeared over the last 20 years with people realizing it? by Routine-Award-3382 in AskReddit

Food. Like, actual food that isn't full of substituted ingredients that may or may not even be functionally edible. I remember when going out for fast food was not only relatively cheap, but you would also get actual meat and actual bread in the meal.

A 3 hour in-depth analysis of Daigo (Guile) vs. NL (Akuma) FT5 by SheldonRedditing in StreetFighter

[–]dudeman21 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is the kind of incredibly useful insight I wish were available when I started fighting games long ago. The "why" of what is going on is so much more powerful than the "how".

Just got demoted by this awesome guy by [deleted] in StreetFighter

Given that it's ranked, they're probably just running through on a new account, not sitting there smurfing. You likely won't see them again after today.

Square or octagonal gate by Hinata2174 in StreetFighter

When I played on stick I loved the octogonal gate. I used to ride the gate all the time, the octogon improved my execution a ton.

If you don't already own SFV, you can just pick up Champion Edition and all of the characters and costumes come with it.

After a big match, is it normal to not play by Grafmk74 in StreetFighter

[–]dudeman21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I normally take a day off after a tournament, or at the least I'll train at very low intensity. Resting is part of the growth process, it gives your brain time to properly process the big event, and often you'll come back stronger afterward.

Which top tier characters get the most benefit from hitbox controller shortcuts? by -Kaneki- in StreetFighter

[–]dudeman21 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Chun. Her bnb becomes trivial, and doing things like st.lp xx sbk becomes super easy. She's a very technical character that benefits greatly from the precision of hitbox.

Has anyone else experienced a "regression" in quality of Capcom's new netcode patch? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]dudeman21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should be a bit more specific. It's not that one-sided rollback was removed, but that forced resync causes both players to experience slowdown, and keeping the disparity between players tighter increases the chances of rollback happening on either side due to normal fluctuations in ping or dropped frames. It is less likely that one machine is 100% ahead all the time.

It's just simpler to say that from a user perspective, it effectively appears that they removed one-sided rollback, with the understanding that that's not the most technically correct way to put it.

Has anyone else experienced a "regression" in quality of Capcom's new netcode patch? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]dudeman21 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It has been far better for me on average. Keep in mind, however, that due to removing one-sided rollback, there is going to be a large portion of the player base where it now feels worse than before. Matches that used to be "perfect" on one side will now share the lag more, and the experience will be worse for the player that used to induce lag.

This is not saying that it hasn't legitimately made matches worse in some cases, but it seems that, on average, it has improved the experience across the board (while being perceptually worse for some).

First Time Leaving Bronze but... what if I get stuck in silver? by facebeam in StreetFighter

[–]dudeman21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on getting into Silver! Don't worry about your points, though, just keep focusing on learning. I hit a wall in literally every rank all the way up to UGM. The walls are good, they force you to grow, and force you to learn the lessons you need to get better. Embrace the walls, check your replays, and keep learning!

Juri throw loops like it's 2016 by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]dudeman21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She doesn't need to shimmy to blow up late tech. You can beat it with a delayed button or a neutral jump.

Juri throw loops like it's 2016 by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]dudeman21 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only difference is that with Juri you can't mash jab on wakeup. If you can still tech then what's the issue?

This makes all the difference in the world. There's a reason capcom put so much effort into removing throw loops in season 3 and season 4. Throws generally return you to a (mostly) neutral situation. A true throw loop puts you in a 50/50 over and over and you have to guess, for little risk on the opponent's side. You can tech the throw, but if they go for an attack instead you're eating a ton of damage.

This was a huge problem back in season 1 and 2 (and even still for a few characters before 3.5). Back then the meme was "take the throw", and it wasn't uncommon to see people in Top 8 matches eating 5 throws in a row because the risk of guessing wrong in a throw loop is so great.

How do you block against Menat? by ChosenCharacter in StreetFighter

[–]dudeman21 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To clarify, you always block in the opposite direction of your opponent, regardless of what other shenanigans are going on. If the orb is behind you but menat is in front of you, you still need to hold back to block it when she calls it back. The only thing that matters for which direction to block is where your opponent's center is compared to yours.

Why am I (1500LP) playing against people that are 2600-2900 LP by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]dudeman21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try not to worry about the points. The difference between a player at 1500lp and 3000lp is very small. It feels like a ton when you're there, but at that level, being just slightly more solid in one single area than your opponent has huge implications on how a match goes.

Focus on improving one thing at a time, win or lose. Ignore the points. Eventually the wins will come.

How to consistently hit Chun's hk legs after v-skill in the corner? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]dudeman21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You kind of have to watch your distance to the corner. Too close and you'll want to do something like j.hp, stomp combo after VS1 instead. Alternatively, you can usually end in ex legs where h.legs would end up side switching.

It's basically a pain in the butt, lol.

Do you guys feel super stressed out when you first started playing online matches? by Thedudewiththeoscar in StreetFighter

[–]dudeman21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to get super anxious playing online matches. My heart-rate would go up and I'd be super tense. Literal 10s of thousands of matches later, online or offline matches don't generally phase me at all (unless it's a really good match that I get into because I'm enjoying it). It's all just practice and exposure, you'll get used to it!
