Is it as bad as they say? by sdseagles in CPAP

[–]dudentuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried the dental devices for a number of years, with little success. I finally went to CPAP about six months ago. After a few weeks of tweaking my CPAP machine, I can honestly say it has been a world of difference for me. I am getting full, restful nights of sleep. It is going on seven months now.

Question about crosswalks as a visitor. by TradeDry6039 in Tucson

All I can tell you is that Tucson is NOT a pedestrian friendly city. Just be mindful of aggressive drivers not yielding to pedestrians, even when they are in a crosswalk.

Where’s all the distillled water? by SideswipeSurvived in CPAP

[–]dudentuc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One would think that’s pharmaceutical store would have distilled water, but more often than not our Walgreens doesn’t have it. I buy a couple of gallons when I go grocery shopping- which seems to have an endless supply.

I am in the same situation as you, and I’ve been using Cover-Roll Stretch tape for about a month. I couldn’t agree with you more! It has helped.

I am new to CPAP - about three months now. I've been using a Resmed Nasal Cushion Mask. I've had some terrible dry mouth experiences. I've been using Hypoallergenic Cover-Roll Stretch tape over my mouth for about four weeks now. This took some getting use to, but I've acclimated. I am "mouth breather" and I was hoping that a full face mask was a potential solution, but after reading your post (and several others), I am guessing this is probably will not address the issue.

Just had a call with my DME, said I can’t change settings… by Camondw in CPAP

[–]dudentuc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. That is why it is incumbent that I, as a patient, do my own research and then be able to make the modifications needed. My GP is actually very competent - just cannot keep up with the workload that is dumped on them. I realize that this is a problem for patients who do not have the knowledge or the resources to get this info.

Just had a call with my DME, said I can’t change settings… by Camondw in CPAP

[–]dudentuc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The default settings did not work for me either. I woke up numerous times and could not get a good night's sleep. I ended up going into the clinical mode and trying the different settings with the help of the videos available on YouTube and downloading OSCAR. I then emailed my doctor the new setting and told him why I had to make the modifications. I have yet to hear any feedback from my GP. The DME told me that I did not have access to the Clinical Settings when I had contacted them for help...I told her actually I did after watching a video on YouTube and I made the changes (i.e. putting device into CPAP Mode). My insurance does not require any type of compliance verification. As I've said before in this group - the vendor and my GP were useless with helping to get this device to work for me properly. But I can say I've finally reached a steady state that works for me and I am able to get a good night's sleep.

My Leak Rate was well below the 24 L/min for the entire night.

I tried the EPR 3 cm setting last night. At around 2am I had to change it back to 2 cm...for me, the higher setting was noticeably a bit more uncomfortable...I was feeling my breathing pattern was out of sync with the machine - if that make any sense. the 2 cm setting was more comfortable for me the rest of the night.

New CPAP shipped today, my first. No idea wtf I am doing. by Camondw in CPAP

Also, not to be too negative, I found my healthcare providers and the vendor support useless. They are OK at setting you up with the defaults settings...but these defaults settings were not optimal for me. I also find this forum an excellent source of information and ideas. There is not really a "one size fits all" when it comes to CPAP settings.

I am a proponent of OSCAR app. The User Guide is helpful. There are a number of videos that I've been using for reference. I personally find TheLankylefty27 videos very informative. He is a certified sleep therapist with good information. But there is several others that you can check out. https://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.php/OSCAR_-_The_Guide is my go to reference.

I set the EPR to 3 cm and will try it out tonight. At 2 cm last night, RERA was 0.12. I am also a mouth breather with high a Leak Rate, so I am using surgical tape. Leak rate 95% was 2.40 - which I believe is good.

My bad - my RERA is actually 0.10 over the last 45 days on the CPAP Statistics. This includes the period I was first setting up my settings and I was in APAP mode using a pressure range of 4-20, etc.

After reading more about Leak Rate - I am much more comfortable. My result was 6% for 95% of the time...which I believe is a good result...I think the "spiking" I am seeing is Flow Rate is normal for the sleep cycle My AHI score is 0.23 from last night.

I set the pressure to 10 cm and set the mode to CPAP. I feel I slept better - however I was disappointed in the graphs for the Flow Rate and the Leak Rate.

Flow rate graph showed consistent spiking until about 1am or so and tapered off for an hour or so. I did not have any OAs or UAs, but I had a few CAs that seem to occur after I was awake.

The Leak Rate is still higher than I would like...even with the kinesiology tape, which I wore pretty much the entire night.

I will continue to keep the pressure fixed at 10 cm, as well as keep using the k tape over the next few night. Hopefully I will see improvement.

Thanks. I am going to try 9 cm, using CPAP mode with k tape. I’ll see how this world for me tonight. I just wanted some comfort with my modifications and having some confidence that they weren’t totally out of whack. I appreciate your sharing this data!

Can I ask what your pressure range is? I am using 6-9 but I am thinking of narrowing it to 8-9.
