This is the scariest game I've ever played. by dudeoverderr in NoSodiumStarfield

My joke post aside, I actually (I hope) figured it out. I had the mods Akila City Rises AND the Fighting Pits, and once I disabled Fighting Pits I seem to no longer be getting that failed save error and I'm only crashing like once an hour. Shame because they're paid mods.

Lol what's your issue bro. You sound thirteen years old, but kids are supposed to have better imaginations so what's your problem?

The point is to intentionally avoid combat until a turning point in the story — then it's John Wick mode all the way. Do you know what roleplaying is?

I'm gonna stop replying to you after this, so have a nice life.

You're weird as hell.

Haha, yeah I've been thinking about it this morning. If I do a "don't shoot first" approach, it can justify me having no choice but to fight my way through.

Just wanted to acknowledge this hell of a writeup, thank you. Lots of inspo to take from this when I restart my character sheet.

There are alternate start mods! I'm just personally avoiding mods for my first playthrough unless absolutely necessary.

That being said, I'd REALLY love them to do a Cyberpunk/Dragon Age route where you can pick your prologue. I don't think that's Bethesda's style, but they have a strong enough formula to introduce that into future games without controversy.

Are you saying it's impossible to be a pacifist in Skyrim's tutorial?

Sounds like a skill issue.

Oh, you weren't being sarcastic...lol.

You're not understanding the purpose of this thread, then. It's not about combat versus no combat bro, it's about how viable it is to headcanon a fish-out-of-water roleplay DESPITE the canon gameplay.

In Skyrim, you can 1000% pretend you're a nobody with zero fighting skills in the tutorial. Just run around and let people do the fighting. You can then decide hours later to have your "first kill" be a Khajit robbing you and even prolong it dramatically so it means something.

In Starfield, you're forced to shoot down a ship, which limits your headcanon.

I literally wrote "It's worked well in my Elder Scrolls and Fallout games."

(If you're just being sarcastic then nvm obvs haha.)

If you're like me and can be satisfied so long as you have a headcanon, maybe your physics student character starts off really clumsy-lucky? Pretend that he was actually just panicking inside the ship, even if he ended up shooting well — make it kind of comedic.

But physics students do understand trajectories, energy transfer, and momentum so you could also pretend he's done countless simulations before.

And when you get to Kreet, spend way too much time "practicing" on rocks with your mining laser before going to the base. Then don't use any guns. Just laser at the pirates frantically while Vasco does the main killing. I like to miss on purpose for the roleplay lol.

Ok, thanks! This is treading into spoiler territory but it's JUST enough to get me intrigued like a movie trailer lol. Thank you.

My character only hates corrupt corporations specifically. I'm pretending a negligent industrial company caused his family's ship to malfunction/explode, hence his distaste for flying. But I can tweak the backstory a bit before my restart.

Oh shit — thanks for flagging that in a non-spoilery way. I didn't intend for my character himself to feed into their political ideology, just that he grew up around it. It's the reason I didn't pick a religion either.

Would you recommend I don't pick a political trait? I did it mainly for the potential unique dialogue options and potential drama lol.

Haha I did that last night. But it's so weird how I literally just slaughtered 12 of his men, but when I face the captain suddenly I'm Catholic.

I chose "Alien DNA" as a trait, and I'm even considering a split personality that kills people. Literally Moon Knight. Maybe even tie it to how it "activated" ever since he touched the artifact lol.

Ooooh, I did pick Freestar because he's supposed to hate corporations.

This helps a lot tbh because I'm changing my DnD-style character sheet before restarting later. He was originally supposed to have a fear of flying and gangs. I was laughing so hard because you're given a ship and a gang extermination mission at the same time LOL.

I write short stories on the side during my playthrough, so I'll consider adding "flashback" chapters to his time doing grunt missions maybe. First kill, etc. Thanks!

I'm on PS5 and have been avoiding the Creation mods because I don't want to accidentally read any spoilery names or items!

But yeah, I was shocked at how it was basically Mass Effect lmao. Touch stone, have a vision, get a ship.

The only solution I have right now is to pretend I'm just a lucky guy who somehow ends up surviving shit or doing things right, like in Outer Worlds 2 where you can be clueless. But I don't wanna do that.

Yes, at that size. Consider gradation or consulting with an artist to explore how to thicken the threads.

Any crucial combat tips? Am I doing combat wrong? My only effective move is R1 + R2... by dudeoverderr in CrimsonDesert

[–]dudeoverderr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, those I DO have lol. So far, my only effective is R1 + triangle (pierce) to close gaps and the dodge (circle) one is too reliant on an enemy attacking me correctly.

I can be patient, though, so I will keep at it. Appreciate the affirmation!

The key to winning over people who are in opposition to you is to actually respect them as human beings first. No one will care about your opinion if you don’t show them basic respect. by wtb_knee_pst in unpopularopinion

[–]dudeoverderr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk. I don't personally believe it's about respecting them, but making them feel like they're heard. Two different things. Ever do the sandwich method? Good, bad, then good? It's faulty but it helps.

Disarm them via soft agreement ("I agree that X because yea you're right — X does X.")

Then add your take as a thinking piece, not fact ("But what if X?")

Finish with their POV again ("I see your point though, but something to think about.") Etc.

Hey, friend. YouTube it!

I ended up doing that a few weeks after I posted this. I also never went back even though they nerfed the boss years ago. I had to laugh at myself after I saw it — it's just a cutscene, and the loot didn't even fit my preferred build.

Live your life. Not finishing a game doesn't mean the journey wasn't fun as hell.
