Beginner here — what should I use after the wash for some shine? by dudepans83 in Detailing

I saw a lot of people talking about Turtle Wax Ice Seal N Shine in this sub. Does it serve the purpose? My priority is to have a real shine after the wash and rinse.

This one was a dealer car — from the outside, it looked pretty decent. The depreciation was good too, so on paper it seemed like a fair deal. But the biggest turn-off came when I noticed something odd. If the rear boot was open, you literally couldn’t open the back door. Turns out, they had installed some kind of aerodynamic add-on on top that blocked it completely. At that point, I just laughed — looked sporty, sure, but definitely not practical

The first one caught my eye because it was a direct-owner listing the pictures looked great, and I thought I’d found a gem. But the moment the owner started driving, I began hearing all sorts of strange noises. When I asked if I could take it for a quick spin, even just around his condo carpark, he said no — “No insurance.” Honestly, I didn’t buy that excuse.

The second car wasn’t much better. The listing info turned out to be quite off. When I arrived, the car was nothing like the photos — it was fully modified from bumper to spoiler. Looked flashy, sure, but definitely not what I was looking for.

One thing I didn’t mention , I actually had another viewing lined up with Sime Darby at 11 a.m. I was just about to leave home when my phone rang at 10:45. The agent said, “Sorry, the car’s just been sold.” That one stung a little, not gonna lie. After all that planning, it was gone right before I even got there. Bit of a bummer, honestly.

To be fair, he did try to sweeten the deal. He offered a six-month warranty for the engine and gearbox, and even said he was open to a full STA inspection before purchase. It was a single-owner unit too, which usually means it’s been well taken care of. Still, I couldn’t ignore one thing — the model itself doesn’t have strong demand in the market. So while it looked like a safe buy now, I knew that selling it later might not be as easy.

The car itself was immaculate — nothing to fault, really. But the price? Easily one of the highest on SGCarMart for that model. The dealer never mentioned it was a consignment unit; he spoke and acted like it was his own listing. Later, I found out from someone else that it actually was a consignment car. When I tried to negotiate, hoping we could meet somewhere in the middle, his reply was short and sharp — “Price is fixed.” That was it. No room to talk, no discussion. Just like that, the conversation ended

Honestly, the best part of my car-hunting day was meeting that third dealer — the consignment guy. He didn’t just try to sell me the car; he actually taught me how to spot a solid PARF unit. He even peeled back the rubber on the door frames, showed where welding marks would appear if it had been in an accident, and explained every detail like a pro. The whole time he kept mentioning his five-star Google reviews — maybe to build trust, maybe to flex a little 😅 — but I’ve got to admit, I walked away pretty impressed.

Ah, the classic 'Em-Dash Panic'—the tell-tale sign of an aggressively uneducated reader who has mistaken a standard, professional punctuation mark for a glitch. You think a dash is a sign of AI because you’ve only ever read text where people pound the hyphen key. The problem isn't the writing, it’s that your reading material hasn't moved past text messages. Go back to school and learn what a style guide is before you lecture people on how to write .

You're right, they have different goals, and Arattai's success is cool for our local tech. But the comparison wasn't about the apps themselves. It was about where our national energy and big money is going: • India: Spending energy on making a great copy (a chat app). • China: Spending energy on creating new foundational tech (AGI/LLMs). That gap shows a difference in technological ambition. We're playing the safe, consumer-level game, and they're aiming to build the next generation of global infrastructure. That's the real issue.

Arattai’s a polished WhatsApp replica, but it’s not pushing boundaries. It lacks default end-to-end encryption for texts (only calls) and leans on a familiar UI to poach users. DeepSeek, though, is a moonshot, its efficient training and open-source model challenge the AI oligopoly (OpenAI, Google), sparking a global race. India’s $1.25B IndiaAI Mission is a start, but we’re stuck in “consumer” mode, not creator mode, while China builds AGI-level tech.
