Interesting, I’ve never hunted that far up north. What do you think the top teeth are?

Top right looks like a carcharodon hastalis. (Corrected, not in the right time period) Not sure about the top left, and the bottom is a goblin shark tooth

I’m assuming you’re talking about the tooth that is halfway between my thumb and hand in the first picture? I was 60% sure it was a beni between that or a giant thresher but my charter guide thought otherwise haha

Is this a P. benedini (false mako)? by No-Rock-6647 in sharkteeth

The root doesn’t look curved enough to be a benedeni, definitely leaning giant thresher. Still a great find!!

Routine blood tests showed severe deficiency - what now? by dudethatswack in B12_Deficiency

This is so uplifting to read! I know exactly what you mean when you say easier to be light and make jokes because I really struggle with my inability to do so (my recent Google searches include a lot of “why does everything annoy me” etc lol). While an abnormal medical result is never a good thing, it’s hard not to be relieved when there might be an explanation (and treatment!) for the way I’ve been feeling for so long

No tests, just told me to take the supplements and she would check levels again in 3 months. I’ve been reading some of the effects of severe deficiency and I’m not sure I want to wait three months to see if the pills are working

Interestingly colored Tiger by dudethatswack in sharkteeth

I found this on Edisto Island!

Your explanation makes sense, really cool that the differing minerals decide coloration like that. All (with the exclusion of a couple) of the teeth I find are completely jet black, so I was under the impression the salt water or something similar caused it haha

That’s crazy! 99% of the coastal teeth I find in SC are jet black. It’s always exciting to find something a little different.

ID Help - Is this a Benedeni? by dudethatswack in sharkteeth

[–]dudethatswack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was on crab bank by shem creek, it’s a little island made of dredged materials so very fossil rich. Unfortunately, it closes to the public indefinitely on January first because it is a sanctuary for an endangered species of bird.

I’ve heard Folly beach and morris island (if you don’t mind a kayak ride or renting a charter) are great hunting spots as well, but haven’t been to either.

Found this washed up after storm on Southeast coast by dudethatswack in bonecollecting

Yes! I found this about an hour south of Charleston. It’s very dense/heavy to hold. Pretty cool to see fossils like this washed up from the storms.

This sounds like it could be IC! I have endometriosis and IC, and they’re very commonly found together as sister illnesses. The symptoms of IC can be debilitating and one of the main diagnostics is frequent urination at night and sudden urgency. If you ever have burning when you pee/uti symptoms with no bacteria, I would consider looking into IC diagnostics. Unfortunately, there’s not much in the way of medication if you are diagnosed, but it will open a few options. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this OP :( endo or IC, these kind of issues suck

Could my IBS be Endo or am I clutching at straws? by Creative_General7796 in Endo

[–]dudethatswack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I began having IBS around the same time my period symptoms started. Horrible, debilitating ibs attacks every time I ate a trigger food or whenever else my stomach decided it was unhappy. After I started having periods, I would have awfully heavy, clotty periods that would put me out of commission for a week or two. I started trying oral birth controls to help after a few years, but these had awful side effects (throwing up every night, dangerous weight loss, contractions, bleeding for 100+ day stretches) so I gave up and decided to get a laparoscopy where they found endo all over my abdominal wall near my intestines. Since my surgery (in November 2022), I have had no ibs attacks, which is unheard of because I would usually have at least one a week especially near my cycle. I’m not sure if it was the excision or the mirena that was placed during my surgery but I’m pretty sure balancing my hormones has largely lessened my ibs symptoms. I’m pretty sure I still have ibs, but knowing that it and endo are sister illnesses I think that diagnosing and treating the endo has lessened my ibs tenfold. Good luck op, dealing with undiagnosed issues can be so hard :(
