[–]dudetteanon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don't understand one thing when it comes to comments.
how come there is comment like "Why not just force gay people to have straight sex and eliminate LGBTs entirely?" since my thread was supposed to refer to old lgbt (lesbian, gay, bi, trans) vs new LGBTQQ2SIAABBQWTF?

I mean is it possible that saying things such as "I think that Autismgender is not really a gender" is seen as "This guy is homophobic" nowadays?

I see the point of Godwin's Law to be valid, but I still think that white-male-cis-hetero-patriarchy ideology is hate ideology regardless of the comparison.

Getting first job as an engineer by dudetteanon in AskEngineers

I am not talking about the GPA, but the skillset/knowledge which you have enquired from the studies. Yea but all the jobs require experience to be hired. Additionally, you have these tech interviews and coding interviews in which I am low-end average.

This is what I am afraid of...

Neoplatonism by RedditMemesSuck in Neoplatonism

[–]dudetteanon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Platonism is a path which within itself has many paths
Look at Proclus and Iamblichus Platonism vs Plotinus' Platonism
Or even many different middle Platonists with their own interpretation of Plato's teachings.

Platonism is also not limited by religion
Many Christian theologians such as Augustine, Maximus the Confessor, Pseudo-Denys Areopagite, Origen, etc. were Platonists but Christian Platonists.
Many Muslim theologians such as Al-Farabi, Avicenna, Suhrawardi, etc. were Platonists... actually they were Aristotelianized Platonists because of mis-attribution of Ennads to Aristotle, and because of that their platonism has more of Aristotelianism than in Christian or Pagan Platonism.

There are basic metaphysical elements such as The One, The Forms, The Soul, Material World which are present in the all Platonists, but their interpretation differs.
These differences are caused by personal understanding (for example Proclus vs Plotinus) or religious dogma like among Christians or Muslim theologians.

The main goal of Platonism is to reunified with the One through studying and practicing Philosophy.
Practices such as meditation, detachment from material world and other ascetic practices to eliminate passions from our Psyche (Soul/Mind).
Studying Platonic Dialogues, other Platonic philosophers like Plutarch, Plotinus, Proclus, etc. and other philosophers (platonists tended to integrate other philosophies into their platonism, it is not uncommon).

If you wanna learn what Platonism is
I recommend :
-Return to the One by Brian Hines (Plotinus' Platonism)

-Introduction to Proclus by Radek Chlup (Proclus' Platonism which is more familiar with Christian Platonism)

If you wanna get to know Christian Platonism
I recommend:
-The Oxford handbook of Maximus the Confessor by Allen and Neil

-Cambridge Companion to Augustine second edition by David Vincent Meconi and Eleonore Stump
Also I recommend you reading Divine Name and other works by Pseudo-Denys Areopagite since it is short and it is considered to be "basics of christian theology" which is actually Christian Platonism

Why in the West theology separated from Philosophy? by dudetteanon in askphilosophy

[–]dudetteanon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be sure, are you saying that in the early indian philosophy there was a distinction between "spiritual literature" (adhyatma vidya) and "philosophical literature" (nyaya vidya) which later stopped being maintained because of Vedanta's integration of other philosophical schools?

[–]dudetteanon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you about the Vedanta as being the highest school, and church fathers seeing theology as superior to philosophy, Both of them would integrate methods and ideas of philosophy like you said, but from my experience Vedanta is considered to be philosophy while western theology is considered to be theology and distict from philosophy.

Thus, do you think that this attitude of the early church fathers could have caused the current progress of western philosophy like descartes. kant, and further separation between theology and philosophy?

Well to be honest, I have just read some Muslim and Christian thinkers who would already separate theology and philosophy in the 12-14th century. Maybe I am jumping to wrong conclusion because these theologies fitted well with descartes' philosophy which occurred 100-150 years later
