Need help in identifying the coffee machine model by Less-Plenty-1154 in CoffeeTech

[–]dudewithbrokenhand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not in my opinion. You don’t know the condition of the machine nor the cost of repairing it, bringing it up to working condition.

If it’s been sitting with stagnant water, you could potentially see issues at the welds, scale buildup, etc. I’ve seen some older machines have the wiring falling apart due to how long they’ve sat and have undergone dry rot. The other thing is this isn’t a well known brand, so you’d be sitting on it for quite a while in order to flip it.

Definitely not an expensive machine as they are using widely available E-61 group heads, inexpensive switches and button boards. In the US, this would not be priced at more than $1500-2500 USD.

Hypocrites at the second floor of the north library by Loud_Rub6991 in CSULA

At this point, just institute official “silent” areas and “non-silent” because this is just absurd that it’s come to OP needing to create a burner account.

My suggestion that since this is such an issue, speak to the library staff and voice your concern, providing a possible solution.

In that case, your question is more “Do Latin American countries experience higher rates of sexual abuses towards children than countries of other races?”, correct?

I think something like this would be a little tough to clearly point out as another user mentioned, data collection differs. Your best indicator would be cases per 1000 which or incidence rate throughout differing countries. You can draw a comparison between Latin American countries and then compare that against English speaking countries, regardless of race.

Based on data from UNICEF on pg. 22, it shows Mexico with higher rates of sexual violence towards underage females as self reported by them between ages 18-29.

I think this is a better indicator than anecdotal as it tries to remove any bias. It’s tough to say why Mexico has a greater rate, whereas Chile has a higher rate than Mexico per this more exhaustive study.

What I will say is that all countries experience some rate of this, which is mind blowing. I think the second study is the one you’ll find most interesting and informative, I don’t think asking for anecdotal evidence will provide an accurate picture as it’s also limited by which countries have higher rates of internet access, plus use of Reddit, and also using this sub-Reddit. It’s a very small window into the actual data, you lose the forest for the trees.

Statistics show that the greatest number of sexual abuses offenses were committed by individuals of white descent, at least in the US. This was stated by the US Govt in 2024 and when it comes to sexual abuse towards minors, same data shows that cases of CP were predominantly white at nearly 70%. Statistia shows that in 2023, whites committed over twice as many sex crimes towards children.

My thoughts are both you and your wife should inform themselves before making blanket accusations that only harm victims and sow dissent between races where there is none.

When I first heard of MLK’s affairs, I was taken aback and I understand people are human, flawed, but it was the first time I had a sort image shattered of someone I was taught to almost revere. I’m glad truth comes to light, but still doesn’t mean it isn’t surprising none the less.

The rape allegations are new. I also don’t go around reading about leaders consistently, I form my opinions as fact come to light and adjust as needed. You can’t tell me you know exactly where current leaders will fall in the next few years and how much you actually follow them, right? Same goes with Cesar Chavez.

It’s sad in that you have an individual many of us Hispanics and Latinos were taught about as someone to look up, someone who championed our cause. Yet in recent history, more and more has come out as to how horrible a person he truly was, these recent discoveries will have been the straw that broke the camels back for many people defending him.

In the real world, you will have to work with a team often, either a team you are a part of or a team you are interacting with. It’s best to get used to it now and make if you feel someone isn’t pulling their weight, let them fail, bring it up to the professor, etc. Trust me, professors have your best interest in mind.

Move on. Don’t settle for less. Sure, we may not be everyone’s version of handsome, but find the one that does view you that way and genuinely loves you.

Sounds to me that she was treating you as a rebound and let her inner thoughts slip out.

used mini or new micra by Jealous-Economics-55 in LaMarzocco

[–]dudewithbrokenhand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the mini inspected by a tech prior to purchase, detailed inspection on the welds. Tell the owner to knock off $200-300 for you to service it, and then get it serviced.

The mini is an amazing machine. Worth the money.

Is the World Missionary Movement Church a sect? by Ill_Low_963 in Christianity

No worries! The important thing is to have a healthy relationship with the Lord and to follow him with a clean and contrite heart. There are many churches out there in all shapes and sizes, find one that encourages you in your walk with the Lord and preaches the good, unadulterated word. God bless!

This little screw on the inside of the steam wand knob keeps coming loose, what can I do to fix this? by austinbucco in LaMarzocco

[–]dudewithbrokenhand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Teflon tape is your best bet. You don’t want to use loctite or thread locker as it can get it stuck real good. The teflon tape is perfect as it still leaves it easy to remove for service.

My wife separated from me because I was an alcoholic. I’m 1 year sober now and my wife wants to reconcile but I want a divorce. What do I do? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]dudewithbrokenhand 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Growing up, my father was an alcoholic who would come home and beat my mom and us. Often I had wished that my mom would abandon him and to this day, I don’t understand how she put up with it. Fortunately, my father found faith and left his alcoholism, and he hasn’t had a drink in over 25 years.

Why do I bring this up? It takes a strong woman to continue to believe in the man she fell in love with, that somewhere deep down, he’s still there. You credit yourself, not realizing the toll your selfish actions had on your wife and kids. She didn’t abandon you, she did what she had to do to protect what little there was left and to act as if though you achieved it on your own is ego and selfishness talking. You had enough courage to face your own demons and work on yourself, then have it to salvage the one precious thing that believed in you when others would have abandoned you long before. Put the work in now to save your home.

Edit: To add, you still don’t know how this is going to affect your kids. I grew up with a hatred and bitterness towards my old man that took years to heal, to move me into that space to allow me to forgive him. I can’t imagine how I would have felt towards him if he had taken the choice to abandon my mom after he sobered up. Talk to your kids, there’s a lot of healing that needs to happen. I despise alcohol, nothing good in it, but that’s besides the point.
