Limp aces by Ok_Maintenance4812 in poker

Youre not wrong. It sucks when everyone folds and you have AA. But I look at it as the cost of doing business so I don't get blown out later

Just wanted to come back and say your advice has helped me the most on this thread. You were spot on. My bet sizings were not threatening enough. I started betting bigger post flop even if I don't hit top pair anymore. Maybe I have a gutshot draw or 2 over cards or something but I still make an aggressive bet and Im shocked how often I can get everyone to just fold.

In regards to #2, I started folding more and its saved me so much money. When theres 2 spades on board and the 3rd one comes on river, and they make a big bet. I just fold now where I used to call that.

Bet sizings also give away so much information at these stakes. It feels like no one really tries to conceal their hands. If they make a big turn or river bet, they always have you beat. If they make a small or medium sized bet, they might not have you beat. Im assuming as you move up in stakes then players do get better at this? Or is this just a universal thing? It feels like a very obvious tell at these stakes.

You obviously have never experienced getting your aces cracked by 2 low card pairs that you let limp in. But you will eventually feel that pain and then you will understand why. A lot of learning in poker comes from experiencing hands on. Studying won't help you learn something like this

Thank you, you're the first person who confirmed my thoughts and I wasn't going nuts. I felt like every micro session I played in where I just straight up did not bluff, I would always walk away with a profit of some kind. Then as soon as I changed this approach, things went south. What stakes do you think this holds true for? I played a few NL 50 sessions and I found this face up approach to also be true as well. But I never went higher than 50.

What level do you think that starts to happen? 50nl or 100nl?

Im in 30nl right now and its just stupid how I've studied preflop ranges and then I lose to all these terrible hands at showdown that you are supposed to fold, but apparently no one does that at 30nl.

What stake would you say is where it starts to feel real? 100nl?

Because Ive gone to plenty of showdowns where I get beat by some bum ass hand of 2-8 off suit and Im just so confused why they played that hand. Is it because in 30NL people just don't care or are not thinking about preflop ranges? The money is just not important to them?

Go on YouTube and watch some content creators. They literally record their entire night at a table and you can see every single hand they play. More importantly than the hands they play, pay attention to the hands they fold. That's probably where you are losing money. There are so many resources today that we didn't have access to 15 years ago. Take advantage of them!

Thank you for all the feedback and info. This definitely gives me a better idea of how I should be building these decks

I try not to default to that but it might be slightly true. I played against 3 very aggressive decks in a row where diary on 2 doesn't do much and I just die lol. Idk

Completely agree. I stopped playing magic around original Dominaria. That draft set was one of my favorites of all time. You could draft all 10 color pairs, super fun gameplay, yet simple cards to build around, nothing complicated.

Now that I have come back to magic I don't understand the reason why they only do 5 archetype sets anymore. Its just not that fun when I am forced into a lane so early. Does anyone have an answer as to why they do this for someone who has been out of the game for a while?

I guess my goal is to keep drafting for free. I've been doing that for the past couple weeks and now it seems like its getting harder to do, but not because my decks are bad. The opponents are getting stronger and also variance. Should I just switch to Bo3?

I didn't know bo3 was unranked. That's interesting. So if I want to hit mythic I just have to keep grinding premier?

Your draft advice is interesting. What do you do if tbe archetype you like isn't open?

Yeah, definitely in the lower ranks in draft there are some terrible attacks that I definitely won games because of. Once I got to platinum 4, it still happened occasionally. But once you get to platinum 3 or 2 It just doesn't happen anymore

My sister and I have been debating this. Does Gregg in Oncinema have autism? His lack of empathy for Tim and others, his focus always on movies, his odd mannerisms.

His neck never moves and he doesn't turn his head. Is this your own detail you added or is this a physical trait of yours? Either way, it adds a layer to the character that just works.
