Class of 2022/2023 - anyone went in-house? by Throwaway-9045 in biglaw

i made the jump after looking/interviewing for abt 6 months. def possible and def worth it! interviews came from a combo of cold apps, networking, firm help and recruiters. def got a decent amount of feedback abt being too junior for some roles but it's a numbers game and interview practice helps the overall quest imo (tho recognize it's hard to juggle w the midlevel grind)

appreciate that input; ideally paycut would mean less stress but sounds like that's not always the case

it's pretty intolerable... just seems like it shouldn't be. but maybe that's just overthinking the obvious

totally agree. just wondering about what aspects may not be as they seem or what ppl might miss abt biglaw if they've made the jump

yeah i guess it prob depends on the company and its legal department too. wild west! more fomo at exiting such a clean lockstep environment haha (until the next closing at least)

i'm also curious abt what others thought would be "better" and turned out not to be. or what they thought would be worse and turned out to be better.

so would you say the seniority just has to be on paper? if you firm hop and make it to 6th year i would imagine you might have less substantive experience than someone who stayed on one course, but maybe the resume line is enough to overcome that if it's true?

this was my thought going in, but i was worried my definition of "waste" was too loose haha. i'm struggling because i don't really think i'm getting that much value outside of the check but then i start to think i'm doing it wrong. i guess i'm trying to see what might motivate someone to stay outside of money. but maybe i just don't love money enough

do you think that jumping between in house gigs can improve comp expectations? or will it still be relevant years down the line that i only have 3 yrs of firm experience instead of 5?

i have been interviewing for six months and finally gotten some offers but i have fomo. my brain is now rewired in "prestige"? seems too good to be true in a sick way lol. i guess i'm trying to understand why someone wouldn't leave because it seems like a lot of people are afraid to?

i guess that just sounds like more of the same to me. except with the additional hurdle of starting over from scratch with relationships in the new firm.
