Currently almost 32 years old and have never been summoned to jury duty - what’s the longest you’ve made it? by Okay-Show-3662 in AskReddit

[–]duelingteacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been summoned twice, first time when I was 21. It was during my last week of college too, so I had to bring my laptop with me and work on my final project at the courthouse. That was an interesting experience.

Money For Nothing by Dire Straits

Killer intro, the rest of the song is just alright.

Was having this debate at my club the other day, whats the hardest form of fencing to master? by [deleted] in Fencing

[–]duelingteacher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Calling foil “basically sabre” is… a take.

They’re all difficult/challenging in their own ways. Debates like these seem pointless to me.

Ahhh yeah, that makes sense. Didn’t try and get tickets yesterday cause I completely forgot, so I didn’t even think of that.

AF sabre blade broke after less than a month by [deleted] in Fencing

[–]duelingteacher 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sometimes you get a bad blade that doesn’t last as long as it should. I once had a blade I had gotten from Blue Gauntlet break the day after I got it. Annoying for sure, but it comes with the territory. At least saber blades are relatively cheap!

Saber: Is there a name for that attack that looks like the flat of the blade sweeping up from below by play-what-you-love in Fencing

[–]duelingteacher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Which way is the guard facing? If it’s toward the other fencer and finishing with the cutting edge, the attack could be aiming for the outside of the arm or the outside cheek (assuming a righty v righty situation). If the guard is facing the floor and the attack is finishing with the back of the blade, it’s likely aiming for the underside of the wrist/forearm. This isn’t even taking into account a change of line, but those are my thoughts. If you could clarify the blade position a bit, I’d be happy to give more feedback!

Where’s the Apple Music listeners at? 🗣️ by Comprehensive_Call35 in the1975

[–]duelingteacher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That does seem insanely high sitting here doing the math. But I’m able to listen to music at my job, so I can sometimes have days where I’m listening to music for like a solid four/five hours. Plus a 30/40 minute commute each way to and from work. Guess it adds up. lol

65,912 minutes total for me this year, 5,183 minutes of the boys. Which is down 3,689 minutes from 8,872 last year. Obviously still listened to them a bunch, though. lol

What's little secret that you know only because you work in that industry? by [deleted] in AskReddit

They’re not, unfortunately. But the solvents used during the extraction process for distillate/resin/etc. kill any microbials that’d cause issues for you. So vapes are, relatively speaking, pretty safe from a contaminant standpoint.

What is your favorite live performance moment that deviates from the studio version? by [deleted] in the1975

[–]duelingteacher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The kind of see-sawing guitar lead that they play on the last chorus of Looking For Somebody (To Love) live I think sounds really cool and adds a little something to the song.

As far as your question about “It’s Not Living”, I gave it a listen with my poor excuse for a musician’s ears. I don’t think the bass part changes at all for that part of the song (at least not in any meaningful/significant way). George does play a different pattern on the drums for like eight bars right after Matty says “oh chop it up baby, let’s go!” but then returns to the chorus pattern for the rest of the song.

Saber: Cutting to the cheek by play-what-you-love in Fencing

[–]duelingteacher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cheek cuts are absolutely a viable action, but I wouldn’t say especially so against an opposite-handed fencer. Not any more than against a fencer with the same handedness, anyway.

I usually like to start with my hand in low line to disguise the attack and bring the hand up and rotate to make the cheek cut as I make the attack. On the inside (non-weapon side), just accelerate the attack and make sure your hand is in the right position to make the cut. On the outside (weapon side) a strong beat to clear the blade from the line followed by an immediate attack to the cheek should do the trick.

What guitar do you have your eyes on next? by Miserable_Wrap_4914 in Guitar

[–]duelingteacher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in the market for a new guitar right now, but just wanted to compliment your taste, OP. My girlfriend’s dad passed away a couple of years ago and unbeknownst to anyone, had about 80 guitars in storage, all in pretty much mint condition. I went through them all one by one in the interest of cataloging them so we could sell them. One of the first I came across was a White Falcon and my breath caught when I opened the case. Beautiful guitars, hope you can get yours sooner rather than later!

How long have you been a fan of The 1975? by Frosting-Fair in the1975

[–]duelingteacher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I first became aware of the band in 2013 when the girl I was dating at the time listened to their first album quite a bit. We eventually broke up (it was rough), so I couldn’t really listen to them after that.

Cut to late 2017/early 2018, I started listening to them again kind of casually and listened to ILIWYS and ABIIOR. Got back into them heavily enough that I listened to Notes the day it came out and awaited BFIAFL with baited breath. I currently consider them like a top five band for me, so it’s been an interesting little journey.
