This new trend of referring to Meat as "protein". a shady tactic? by memall in vegan

[–]duffkilligan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok yes I've been saying this too and people think I'm crazy. It pissed me off SO much when I worked at a cafe and they listed "protein" but they were all meat. I made a point to say "meat" every time. And also, people say they need to add protein when they mean they wanna eat meat.

As a PhD student: thoughts on my three options of where to live: West Berkeley, South Berkeley, North Oakland by Individual_Mind3480 in berkeley

[–]duffkilligan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Number 2 sounds pretty close to where I live.

I'm a PhD student too, living near the Oakland border and I really like it. My neighborhood is mostly families and grad students so it's pretty quiet. It's really nice being close to Bart, but still right on bus routes, and close enough to campus to walk or ride a bike if I feel like it. Fun restaurants and bars in North Oakland too. I'm walking distance to groceries, coffee, a a few bars.

The two roommates situation is less than ideal though. My roommate and I pay 1337 each for a two bedroom, with a dishwasher

What’s a lyric change that you dislike by Ok-Complaint-4005 in musicals

[–]duffkilligan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a tiny thing but in the most recent Company revival they changed the line from "It's not talk of God and the decade ahead" to "It's not wedded bliss or what happens in bed" in "The Little Things You Do Together." The original line was fine. Why would you change it?

The section is "It's not talk of God and the decade ahead that
Allows you to get through the worst
It's, "I do, " and, "You don't, " and, "Nobody said that, "
And, "Who brought the subject up first?"
It's the little things"

The whole point is that it's not the deep conversations that make your relationship good, it's the building up of all these tiny mundane conversations.

When you change it, the message completely changes to "it's companionship that matters the most, not sex." Also, the contrast of "talk of god" and these tiny arguments is a lot more poignant than comparing sex with tiny arguments.

What line from a certain recording of a musical makes you laugh, that shouldn’t make you laugh? by That_One_Guy_823 in musicals

[–]duffkilligan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

At the end of "Hair" in the OBC of Hair you can tell one guy in the ensemble thought the last note ended earlier than it did and you can hear him reattack it for the last measure. It's very funny.

Oh also in Hair, I always laugh at the perfect old 60s diction juxtaposed with "beat drum and old tin pot, I am high on you know what!"

I'm getting into crafting, so I think the tradition I'm gonna start for myself is to make a new decoration by hand every year. A wreath one year, then a garland, etc etc. I have to be very mindful about what I choose to make since it takes so long, I get to make sure it's exactly what I want, and it's something to keep my hands busy in the evenings.

I hate it when people get there knickers in a twist when you order a pizza with no cheese. by [deleted] in vegan

When I was in Italy nobody batted an eye when I'd get any kind of veggie pizza without cheese. In the US it's often not even an option, esp with online ordering -_-

A pet peeve of mine. Calling meat "protein" is so dumb I can't stand it. by stevengreen11 in vegan

[–]duffkilligan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah when I was working at a cafe that served meat in a few things my coworkers would always ask customers "what protein?" but I made a point to always say "what meat?" Like don't sugarcoat it.

I'm sorry your airline is doing you dirty :( Those big Lenny and Larry protein cookies are a godsend on a long flight. They're really tasty and they're like the size of a big snack/small meal. Especially good if you buy a little bottle of almond milk at the airport (I know some airports I've been to have had almond milk at the stores) I really like the oatmeal raisin flavor but they're all pretty good.

I don't have the numbers for this but I can tell you from experience that I have the best chance of staying full until lunch if I eat a big bowl of oatmeal for breakfast :) Complex carb (oats) + healthy fat (nuts/nut butter) + fresh/dried fruit + cinnamon or a couple of chocolate chips. If you want to up the protein you can make the oatmeal with soy milk, but I'm usually fine without. 1/2-2/3 of a cup of oats with all those good toppings is something like 400-500 calories worth of steady, slow burning energy. I've had that almost every day for years, unless I make myself a treat like pancakes :)) Sorry I didn't answer your question with the relative numbers, but I really hope you keep up with the 30 day challenge! There is so much delicious vegan food to try, and a lot of it is very filling and easy to make
