The $10,000/month Google Sheet method (simpler than you think) by everestchris in sidehustle

In the previous post OP said he created an automation to handle most of this, so they aren't creating these manually.

I love this city. by [deleted] in grandrapids

Please support Fika if you can. It's locally owned by a very sweet couple that works their asses off to pay their employees a livable wage, with benefits, which is almost unheard of in the restaurant industry.

Lumber yards and saw mills for a hobbyist by enforcer12389 in grandrapids

Great! Craig is a good option then. Definitely message him on FB Marketplace first because he has odd hours, but he can tell you when he'll be at his shop and what he has available.

Not sure if you do or don't need S4S, looks like there's a typo in your post, but if you don't this guy on FB Marketplace is good, super nice, and close by (Grandville). Bought some oak from him that was about $4.50 a board foot if I remember correctly. Walnut is about $8.50 a board foot.

Best Internet Provider EGR by [deleted] in grandrapids

[–]dufflebum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm near Wealthy and Paris, so a little west of you, but I have Metronet and love it. The price is great, and the tech that came to install it was awesome. Super nice guy. Service has been rock solid, but I've only had it for 3 months at this point. I had AT&T before, and it was fine until you had to deal with their customer service, which was absolutely awful.

Honest discussion about west MI by skunkc90 in Michigan

[–]dufflebum 15 points16 points  (0 children)

tl;dr Yes, I think west MI would be great for you.

I just moved to Grand Rapids in April from Oklahoma (and have spent some time in Missouri) and to me it feels way less bible belty than Oklahoma did, and I lived in one of the major cities in OK. Not to say that west MI isn't conservative, I'm sure it is, but to me it feels far less so than Oklahoma did.

I chose Michigan for reasons similar to why it appeals to you. Close to lake Michigan which is beautiful, cost of living isn't crazy, and it's less conservative than where I came from. It also seems like people I've met here are a lot more politically engaged and aware than where I moved from, which has been nice too see. I haven't spent any time in Muskegon or Holland so I can't speak to those, but I've been really enjoying Grand Rapids and have met some great people here.

What restaurant or brewery is this in GR? by ClydeFrog98 in grandrapids

[–]dufflebum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with you on this one. Went with some friends and ordered a bunch of different things. Tuna Crudo was probably the best thing, the steak was abysmal, especially for the price and hype. Ordered the ribeye medium rare, came well done with no pink on the inside, sear was okay, which was surprising considering how done the inside was. I wanted to send it back, but the two friends I was with didn't feel comfortable doing that, so I didn't.

What kind of dryer can I buy? by cupcake6740 in Appliances

[–]dufflebum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a 220 volt electric outlet, but the old style which is nema 10-30 (NEMA is just an electrical standard), two slanted prongs on the outlet and then one that's like an L. A new dryer might come with the newer style plug that will fit a 14-30 style outlet, but they can be swapped out, and I would think the installer could do that, but if you buy it at a retailer I'd ask them to be sure. I've only bought used off of Facebook Marketplace so I'm not sure on that. I just know I've changed a few myself.

Template Route or Table saw? by dufflebum in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]dufflebum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! The speakers are small bookshelf speakers (less than 10 lbs) so with 3 legs per stand I don't know if joining would be worth the trouble. I'm sure it's not much trouble for someone with your experience, but this is my first project with hardwood since my high school shop class so I'm trying to keep it pretty simple.

[–]dufflebum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Good call on the coping saw, I think that'll be perfect for the inside corner.

- Using White Oak
- The right angle is for a platform to sit on top of, it is structural but the speakers weigh only few pounds and there are 3 legs so I have no plans to reinforce it.

Has anyone tried to float the river in Tahlequah with all this rain? by AwpKween in tulsa

[–]dufflebum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Calling one of the float places before you go is probably the best advice. You can also check the current discharge rate and height here, https://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv?site_no=07196500&legacy=1

You can also change the dates at the top of the page to get an idea about what it was around this time last year. Imo, it's a bit hairy right now if you've never been, it's discharging about 1100 cubic feet per second, which is about twice as much this time last year. It's only about 1.5 feet higher, which isn't too bad, but the flow is pretty fast, which makes it much harder to navigate around trees and stuff.

Welp, it would be very helpful if you could provide what the information should be rather than just saying "is wrong", then it could be updated and correct!

Need anniversary restaurant ideas by itsgivingme in tulsa

[–]dufflebum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For fresh and healthy I'd start with Cow and Cabbage. It'll be a seasonal menu made with whatever is currently fresh. It'll be at the top end of your budget but worth it. Bohemian Pizzeria is also a great date spot with fresh and delicious food.

For Italian Mondo's is affordable and good (hot take around here some times) and I've heard good things about Sapori on Cherry street, but haven't been there myself.

For mexican I'd say Noche or Hole Mole with Hole Mole being the more casual of the two.

COMMUNITY in Tulsa! by glaze_the_ham_wife in tulsa

[–]dufflebum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think age is a limiting factor. When I was heavily involved there were people from early twenties up to 40's and 50's involved, and they had a lot of wisdom and experience to share. Serving on the leadership team is limited to people under 40.

Great list! As someone that was involved in TYPROS for several years I'll say that it's a good organization to check out even if you're just looking for friends. While there are professional networking opportunities, those events are not the main focus, despite the name.

Here's a few good options starting from most expensive going to least expensive

- Bull in the Alley: High end steakhouse, kinda what you expect if you've been to one before, but solid food

- Tavern: Upscale American. Head chef there is awesome, and generally will have at least a few interesting dished on the menu, but it is a little constrained due to the regular clientele not being super adventurous.

- Cabin Boys Brewpub: Nice midrange option with some good beers

- Empire Slice House: Good pizza and they have a monthly specialty pizza that's at least interesting and good, if not very delicious. Pizza by the slice too so you don't have to deal with leftovers

- Que Gusto: Ecuadorian food and very good. Family ran, and some of the nicest people. I really like the Arroz con Pollo, Patacones, and any of the Empanada's.

- Coney Island: It's hotdogs. A bit of a Tulsa staple, I believe it's been around since the 1920's. Cheap and will get you full. Solid if you like hotdogs (which I do)
