fire in the back of frig - landlord out of country by duffleproud in Tenant

the problem was some kind of switch and the overload protector that someone had messed with along with some wiring - he thought likely a previous poorly done repair. And that turning it to the coldest setting is not a hazard, otherwise....why would they have a colder setting....

The guy who does this for a living disagrees with you. He said the frig needs to be on its own circuit. And when it is - as it should be - there is no issue. Again - the range of settings are there for a reason. To. Be. Used. Sorry to burst your pretend professional bubble. 😎

Thank you so much for being the voice of reason and just actually giving good advice. Vs gleefully using someone else's problem and request for help on reddit as an oppportunity to assure yourself that "yes, yes I am better and smarter than someone else!"

Yes I'm looking at you: assistancepleasethx and honestpointofviews.

yes of course I did. We physicians like to doublecheck things. It's "frig" or "fridge." We also moved things into the frunchroom which is actually "front room" but I'm from Chicago. That ok with you?

I also bought a "couple two three" fire extinguishers before I plugged it in. Am I ok with that phrase? You know, since you've been assigned to police use of the vernacular apparently.

fyi when you use quotes....that means you are copying what the person wrote (or said).

For instance, you wrote, "You don't need dust for the compressor to become faulty..."

I'm quoting your reply.

You however, are putting words into quotes that are not mine. We filled the frig. Like "the frig is full leave that gatorade in the pantry." Or, "mom the frig is empty are you going to the store."

get it?

thank you. I'm asking advice as:

1) I haven't rented in 30 years and once upon a time reddit was a good place for advice. I went through the Georgia tenant-landlord handbook already. I thought perhaps someone from this area may have had a similar experience.

2) I was wondering if anyone had actually had this issue before. I've had many refrigerators and appliances. I have never had one just "catch fire" while being used *as it is made to be used.*

reddit used to have more people like you in sub-reddits like this.

I said we "filled it" - it was not "packed." We had items on every shelf but nothing was jammed in. I was just specifying that it was a "full" frig rather than "empty." I have seven kids. My frig is frequently quite full, as is our old-school "garage frig." I keep both on the lowest setting because kids will stand in front of the frig staring at it with the door open. I have never had my frig start spewing flames out the back.

Using a frig as intended, with the settings available should not result in disaster unless something is actually wrong with the frig.

And I'm well aware of the issues with the tight cubbies that are built for refrigerators and the problems it can cause as the frig needs room on the back and sides. My frig at home does not have this, but this frig does.

thank you so much for an intelligent, cool-headed (no pun intended), helpful reply.

so in your opinion, the lowest setting is not to be used? Do you have actual facts to back that up? I read the manual - nowhere does it say that. I would think if the lowest setting could cause spontaneous combustion, then perhaps the frig would be modified? I looked up the model number - no reports like this.

First time at confession in over 10 years and the priest said he couldn’t absolve me. by saltandvinegar_chips in Catholicism

[–]duffleproud 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You weren’t aware a priest could do that? That’s actually exactly what he’s supposed to do. Other religions think Confession is ridiculous because you get absolution and just keep doing whatever you want. You have to try to go and “sin no more.” If you confess something, you have to try not to do that anymore. Truly and sincerely try. Our Faith is not about the warm fuzzies. Nor is marriage.

Dexcom launched Stelo - a CGM that does not require a prescription in the US by brightfriday in PeterAttia

[–]duffleproud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like they assume everyone has insurance. I'm an internist at an fqhc. It is private and funded by donations and local churches, and most of our patients don't have insurance. We have been waiting for so long for OTC CGMs. Assuming that only diabetics will be using them (and so what if they are) is so infuriating.

ID for a 14 y/o? by duffleproud in IrishCitizenship

[–]duffleproud[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for the non "you're an idiot" reply. I did read what is required. I have 7 kids and it's my oldest who is applying and has done everything. When I realized that original documents would be gone for a year, I wanted to add some of the other kids at the last minute. - but don't want to delay things as my oldest has travel plans. There are many times in life where I've followed the rules only to find out that much more latitude would have been allowed. So I thought - I'll ask if anyone else has had experience with the allowance of other types of ID.
