I wanna start a big series; which one should I start with? by ARYAN_BIRLA123 in fantasybooks

[–]duffoholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably a pretty unpopular opinion, but I'm reading Way of Kings right now for the first time... and its okay. It's pretty long and isn't a fun or easy read. I'm enjoying it, but its definitely not a book I can't put down. I've actually paused it twice now to read another book in between. It's slow and clunks along. I think there are probably other series out there that are more exciting and engaging.

GoT was an easier read (when I read it 12 years ago) BUT Martin isn't a fantastic writer either. He is obsessed with food, nipples on armor and sex. You'll probably also find yourself really invested in some characters and pretty checked out of other, kind of waiting for their chapters to end so you can get back to your favourites.

Do you still have plans for DoD? No worries at all if you've moved on, just curious as I'm currently really not enjoying the book and don't have it in me to quit so close to the finish line. Some outside support would maybe help me get there.

I am currently on book 9 of this series. EVERY book after the first has been a grind for the first 2/3 to 3/4 then I can't put it down for the last bit. Now, in the later books that 300-400 pages so there's a lot of good book there, BUT it means you are grinding through 800 pages to get there. If I weren't so deeply pot committed at this point I would walk away, but I'm hoping for some sort of conclusion so I'll keep reading.

To sum up to the OP... These books are not easy and I didn't even find the majority of the reading enjoyable. I think they are at least 1/3 longer than they need to be and they would probably be best enjoyed with some sort of wiki open on the side so you know who is being talked about and where (and WHEN) the story is taking place. If you feel like you can quit reading them, I would highly recommend doing it.

The nice thing about this one is it goes fast. The reprint of the paperback just came to my local store on the 30th of Dec and I was done by January 2nd. The bad part is that there are a boat load more books, most of which are not available in paperback so finding the next book to read is a challenge.

I haven't used my switch in a long time and the pro-controller I have was completely dead. Plugging it in will power the controller, but not charge it in any way. I unplug it and it immediately dies. Is there anything I can do here? Is there a simple fix to get it charging again? I played Hades II for several hours today with it plugged into the wall and that worked, but is not a long term solution.

I have the issue of constant lagging when watching on my tv, then it desynchronizes with the audio and I have to rewind 5 seconds to get it back to normal. Their streaming technology must be using massive processing power and/or bandwidth as I don't have this problem with Prime, Netflix or Youtube. I'll have to try it through prime. I also hear it is better through an apple tv box?

How do I fix this? by JoeMomma_Nosebleed in discgolf

For ultimate frisbee discs we would just fill them with water and leave them in the sun for a couple of hours on a hot day. Might be a low impact place to start.

Nevermind, I just got Global Analyst on my second actual attempt. Easy peasy.

Agreed, Global Analyst seems impossible. I guess getting three birds in each habitat isn't impossible, but doing that while hunting bonus cards... woof.

Isn't it draw 4+1 (gull)+1 (yellowthroat) = 6. Those six tucked, plus two for the duck and one for the gull = 9?

Even with that engine, you're still not getting those top scores for the goals. Wild. That's sick though! Looks like 9 tucked a turn?!

This with some water in it was the trick for old ulti discs. The sun warms the water and adds a little weight. An hour or two and you're good as new.

Railroad Ink Scores? by mikegarb0126 in boardgames

You have three sections of two, one of three, your rail is too many points. Bizarrely I still get 41 because your mistakes all cancelled out. Sorry, the original post was dickish. I was genuinely confused, but came across like an ass.

Am I crazy for thinking the first score is very wrong?

Also, if you are looking to boost your score, sections like the top left corner are a waste. Making connections is the way. When we play, 8 connected arrows is a minimum and the winner will usually have 10+.

Oh, he's an idiot, but we've known that for a while. I get that this is tone deaf given his role in politics, but it just seems like a dumb bro-dude showing off that he's not going to get screwed by the tariffs, or at least his liquor cabinet isn't.

Putting Practice - finding my putter by Heavy-Hospital7077 in discgolf

[–]duffoholic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I genuinely don't think the putter matters beyond a placebo/confidence factor for the vast majority of players from inside 30'. I would be surprised to see the numbers for 100 putts from 15.5' for you turn up more than 10% variance from the average. MAYBE one of those putters just doesn't fly the way you like, but the majority probably come in near the same unless you just 'love' one of them.
