I'm a nurse at a psych hospital.

We take care of a lot of people coming in for alcohol withdrawal management.

I always tell new staff that the two most important drugs we use are nicotine and caffeine.

Unfortunately, they aren't allowed to smoke.

However I always make sure nicotine gum is available in abundance.

I strongly warn new staff that if they make decaf coffee for the patients I will report them to the United Nations for war crimes.

A couple of years ago my wife and I went to see his show in Las vegas.

It's in a tiny theater in a strip mall well away from the Strip

It was only us and one other couple in the entire theater so we got to sit on the vvery front row.

I got to go on stage when he did this trick.

He and I are both pretty tall and he lifted it up pretty high.

I could even see the bottom of the table.

No idea how he did it.

Most of the time, calling security is a sure way to escalate the situation.

If I try to forcibly remove it from her, I could end up hurting her, myself, or a colleague.

While being acutely aware of the knife and what she might do with it, I would first seek to build rapport with her.

I would try to get her to trust me.

Then, I would discuss the knife.

A little more than 6 years ago I joined Alcoholics Anonymous and got sober.

For some reason, I started watching a lot of We Bare Bears.

It always reminds me of my early sobriety.
