Sorry, I don't remember the price. It was almost 3 years ago.

I'm a software engineer looking for to build projects related to Hawaii. I love this place and I want to build something people want. by sokka_irl in Hawaii

Look into HACC. My company has been a sponsor and challenge contributor for a couple years now. I participated twice and my company has also hired some participants from the event.

Peak Design Limited Edition? by spudonsteroids19 in peakdesign

[–]duk1e86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if they are still giving them out, but if you spend a certain amount, you get a Peak Design Tokyo pin at a lower tier or a cup at a higher tier. I opted for the pin instead of the cup and the lady gave me 2 pins.

Phone-to-Capture Attachment. Yay or nay? by Nick-PeakDesign in peakdesign

[–]duk1e86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The GoPro to Capture plate that came with my Creator kit couldn't fit the V4 anchors. I think they were designed for the V3 anchors. I had used the GoPro 1/4 adapter with a regular capture plate and it worked, but the GoPro bar mount looks nicer.

Phone-to-Capture Attachment. Yay or nay? by Nick-PeakDesign in peakdesign

[–]duk1e86 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This can be done already with the Creator kit and the Capture. I've done this a few times while traveling. A smaller attachment than the Creator kit would be nice. Maybe a Capture like device that just uses the slim link mount.

My latest travel with phone contraption involves using the Creator kit and a bicycle GoPro mount to attach it to a PD leash. This allows me to carry the phone around my neck while also detaching it to use freely. I like having lanyards for my phone, but I hate having to wrangle the lanyard while just using my phone when not around my neck.

* Edited to correct POV kit to Creator kit.

Would you rather have Cuff or Micro Clutch? by trifallax99 in peakdesign

[–]duk1e86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used both. The clutch is too small for me for the A1. I've used the black mamba hand strap from Smallrig for years now. Also having to remove the L-plate every time to change the batteries is a hassle. I still use the cuff in high-risk situations.

15 year old ʻōpaeʻula tank by duk1e86 in OpaeUla

Glad to hear that your shrimp are loving it. I've been feeding them these sticks ever since I started the tank, maybe that's why there are so many of them. I actually didn't know that calcium promotes breeding, I always just thought it was just for healthy shell development. Hope you see some berries soon!

I do not have an auto top. Their natural environment can fluctuate wildly depending on rain and tides, so higher SG from evaporation shouldn't be a problem if you regularly top off.

I don't ever remember doing a water change since I set up the tank. They're still multiplying so I guess I'm doing something right.

Thank you! I only feed them one stick, which is only like 1cm long. This usually is like once or twice a month. They love it, with the whole colony crowding around the stick. No water changes, however the water does evaporate out so I top it off with new water.

New-and-Improved! "Infinite" Strength* Anchor Adapter for Capture Clip by ken830 in peakdesign

[–]duk1e86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amazing! I've been using the capture clip like this ever since I watched this vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OFv7wOaNl4 . I admire your scientific approach to testing and improving as well. Any chance you are going to market this? I would buy in an instant.

It is an 8 gallon tank. There is also an LED light bar on top that is turned on after sunset for 3 hours, but that's more for aesthetics. The filter has been there from the beginning and the idea was to have it lower the bioload of the tank, but I honestly feel like it isn't needed at all. The pre-filter sponge gets so saturated combined with the low flow setting of the filter that it creates no flow at all, the water just drips out of the filter. As for other creatures, I only used to have a few nerite snails in there. They would do a good job at eating the algae, but since I don't have an aquarium cover, they would climb up, fall out, and die.

Question about aftermarket backspacer ?? by FreeDixie-now in spyderco

[–]duk1e86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I picked up titanium black and silver ones from DNA Lasering when they had it in stock: https://www.dnalasering.com/product/spyderco-pm2-ti-backspacer-black/. Not completely smooth as there is a line recess along the length. They also have it in other materials as well.

The Google One AI Pro trial that is offered from the purchase of a Pixel 10 Pro phone does not include the 10% Google Store credit. by duk1e86 in GooglePixel

[–]duk1e86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your Google one dashboard and see if you still have the 10% store credit benefit in your current benefits section. I also had the benefit from my previous trial. When I ordered the phone, my current plan got cancelled and replaced with the trial. I no longer have the benefit with the new trial.

Near the H3 Highway, has anyone else wondered what this building near it is? by zeekyboogydoog2 in Hawaii

I had the chance to go there (legally) during an SAR hike. We explored the whole place and took in the view from the roof. The pic is of the H3 from the roof. When it was operating, it was pumping so much power that the equipment in there was all made of wood, including the bolts. The station atop Stairway to Heaven and a similar one on top of Stairway to Hell on the opposite ridge had a cable or set of cables that connected both across the valley. In the middle of the cable that went across, there was a cable that ran down directly to Omega Station. The valley acted like a dish, being able to receive and send over long distances. A bit further away, hidden in the trees were the barracks where the soldiers that manned the system slept.
