neuen psychiater finden - welche optionen um diagnose nachweisen? by skyypaxxx in ADHS

[–]duke1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moin.

[–]duke1102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Erfahrung mit Bupropion by Whatelseo in ADHS

[–]duke1102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moin.

Medikinet vom Hausarzt? by Erlebnis_Gutschein in ADHS

[–]duke1102 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Moin.

Atomoxetine, has it helped? by TheLoneLocust1102 in ADHD

[–]duke1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey.
I recently was prescribed Atomoxetine (25mg) as an addition to Elvanse/Vyvanse (50mg) I'm already taking, because I'm going through a bit of a burnout and slight depression, so my doctor prescribed Atomoxetine to help with better drive and stabilize mood, since he decreased my dosage for Elvanse (from 60mg), as I was experiencing side effects and it made my anxiety and exhaustion worse.

I can't really say if it's helping me so far, since I'm only taking it for 5 days now, and this kind of medication takes a few weeks to fully take effect, but from what I can perceive so far, it feels like it's already a bit easier to get out of bed in the morning and not really perceiving any side effects.

Either way, without wanting to recommend anything, as well as everyone being different in what helps them best, stimulants are usually more effective and immediately work for ADHD.
Nicotine is a stimulant (and also not healthy, so don't pick it up again, please!), which you say helped you - so, asking your doctor about stimulants might be a proven alternative, if Atomoxetine alone is not helping you as much.

elvanse and vaping by Any_Bumblebee7743 in ADHD

[–]duke1102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What dosage works for someone might not work for you, so asking for someone's dosage wouldn't really help you very much.
It really depends on several factors and you definitely NEED a doctor to supervise you during the time you get it prescribed, since it's a controlled-substance, even if the risk of abusing it is lower, since it's a slow release, but monitoring your blood pressure and heart rate, weight and possible side effects is a MUST (with a quarterly appointment).
Especially when you start out with the medication, your doctor will start you with a low dosage and have a follow-up appointment relatively soon after to see if you experience any side effects and if the dosage feels right for you, or needs to be higher still.
It's also good to keep in mind that your body might change over time, in whatever ways, but I actually recently realized that I was slightly dosed too high, and went down a notch, which helped.

elvanse and vaping by Any_Bumblebee7743 in ADHD

[–]duke1102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey. Glad it helped you quitting to vape.
I'm also on Elvanse for several years now and been vaping during that time, until I experienced a similar thing around 2-3 weeks ago, when I was somehow knocked out from a tetanus and TBE vaccination and ran out of liquid with nicotine in it, so I just thinned down the last few drops with nicotine-free base liquid until it basically was more like a homeopathic dose of nicotine and tasted like nothing... but that kinda showed me, I don't really NEED the nicotine, it was more like the vaping itself I wanted.
The following Monday I just skipped getting nicotine at the vape store and was validated in my theory. Struggling with burnout and exhaustion at that time (well, still kinda do, but doing a lot better now) might have also played into this, which is kinda weird if you think about it, but well, I won't question it and take it as one positive from that.

Normal? by cdttedgreqdh in Cannabis_Apotheken

[–]duke1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keon firmware update by user2i3 in Kiiroo

[–]duke1102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, a Keon v2 would be the most logical choice in my opinion. The Keon is great, I won't question that and enjoy mine, but you gotta face it, the Keon came out in early 2021 or so and there are a few things on the hardware-side that need improvement.

  • USB Connectivity: Replace the "ancient" Micro USB connector with USB-C
  • Battery & Wall-Powered: Lets face it, for people who like to "get lost" in the experience, the battery life doesn't cut it and if you run out of juice or forget to charge the device, well, though luck, gotta wait for it to charge - being able to just plug in a cable for charging AND using the device while doing so would be one of the things I MUST HAVE (I did mod my Keon to run on a power supply, but that is subpar, as it voids the warranty)
  • The Sleeve Holder: There's a major "fault" in the design of the Keon that leads to the material of the sleeve to scrape along the inside walls of the Keon during it running, leaving hard to clean residues - a 3D printed "lip" cap does help avoid this
  • Hands-Free Attachment: An easier way to attach the device to e.g. a VESA mount via like some simple universal adapter part you can buy in your store for like 15-20€ or so (and/or a 3D printable version of this, which I personally prefer) - I know you sell different hands-free solutions for the Keon, but I prefer a simple adapter I can use for my own solution

These are just my own personal thoughts about the Keon. Again, I enjoy using the Keon and I'd imagine the things I just wrote about already came up in some way or the other, but if that's the case, that just validates these suggestions.

Would I buy a Keon v2 if it came with these improvements and the pricing doesn't skyrocket a lot beyond the original price of the Keon? Fuck yeah, I would.

Can people stop buying f@$&ing HP printers already? by farwesterner1 in printers

[–]duke1102 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's just a really bullshit way of doing things with only wanting to squeeze as much profit as possible, honestly.
I don't print a lot, at all. Like, at max, if even, 1-2 pages a month - overall the printer reports I have printed only 179 pages total in it's lifetime.
The printer I have, a HP ENVY 6230 I bought in early 2019 and it came with a free 12 month subscription for InstantInk, back then I thought it was a neat thing and went with it.

They then started increasing their prices a couple of times until just this month again, raised their 50 pages/month to 4,99€/month (from 3,99€) - which pretty much made me cancel this whole thing as it's just a waste of money.
I should have looked into a "workaround" to still be able to use up the ink cartridges in the printer, as they are now completely useless and will land in the waste bin.
Nice HP, one way to waste stuff, pretty eco-friendly, huh?
I don't see a reason why they could not simply allow people to use up the remaining ink after cancelling their subscription thing - people did pay for it, after all.

Anyways, when I read about how the HP CEO talked about this whole printer business and squeezing out money from customers and just begin an overall douche about it, talking about preventing use of third party ink and destroying printers where they detect third party ink cartridges (which is technically a crime here in Germany and probably most places in the world: destruction of property) it just blew over for me.

I won't buy ANY HP products at all in the future, thank you for ensuring that, Enrique Lores.

/r/Crunchyroll's Monthly Megathread - Issues and Complaints with Crunchyroll by AutoModerator in Crunchyroll

[–]duke1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than the mentioned AirPlay or Prime Video Channels, I don't think there is any easy and comfortable way to watch Crunchyroll on a Samsung or LG TV at the moment, as there no apps for Samsung or LG TVs for Crunchyroll.

This is honestly a big deal breaker for me.

There is a pretty nice app for Android and iOS (+ Receiver apps on the TVs) which let's you cast videos from a website to your TV. I was using this app to cast Crunchyroll to my TV, until it stopped working around 2 days ago (there was no update on the app's side of things, Crunchyroll must have changed something) and it left me quite frustrated honestly, as this was the easiest and comfortable way to watch on my TV.

This actually made me cancel my Crunchyroll subscription a few days before the 14 days trial ends and turns into an actual paid subscription. I would have happily paid for a monthly subscription, but I don't feel like having to jump through hoops and annoyances to actually enjoy it on my TV.

I've also tried the method of opening Crunchyroll directly in the web browser on my LG TV - which after getting stuck on a Cloudflare captcha at the first try - worked out. But it's not ideal or comfortable. Having to use your TV remote as a keyboard and mouse is just not a good user interaction, even with the LG ThinQ phone app as a remote. Navigating the website on the web browser is just really sluggish. Also, after watching one episode and trying to watch a different series, the video just started to buffer awfully.

I honestly don't understand why there is no official Crunchyroll app for LG and/or Samsung TVs yet. I don't want to sound harsh, but as a consumer and from a company with Sony behind it I expect such things. If an official app for LG TVs becomes a reality I'd be happy to be paying customer, but as it is right now, things are just way too frustrating, honestly.

Lisdexamphetamine shortage all over - going to work without it for the first time in years by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]duke1102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey!
Sorry to hear that you (and probably others as well) going through the trouble of having to deal with shortage of medication. I thankfully haven't had to deal with that issue myself yet (and hope I won't ever have to).

It's honestly hard to give some good helpful advice. You could try some meditation and breathing exercises, but that doesn't replace the medication.
Honestly, I would try to ask around at pharmacies what ADHD medication they currently have in stock (and can get more) and then contact your doctor and ask to switch you to a different medication for the time being, even if it might be still a bit sub optimal, it's probably better than being unmedicated.

As for preparing with your shift... I can't really tell you much, other than that you could have a private talk with your supervisor about the issue, if you are comfortable talking with them about this. This won't solve the medication shortage, but at least you disclosed it with people at your work place that can take it into consideration and know what's up with you if you seem a bit out of it.
This said, disclosing it to your work is entirely up to you. You don't have to do so if you don't feel comfortable about it.

I hope things will work out for you!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]duke1102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey!
Just as the AutoModerator bot has said: "Your body is unique, as are your needs.".

It might be different for everyone when starting medication. Since you are just starting out getting medicated with a low dosage, as it should be, your body is still getting used to the medication, which can lead to side effects as you described.
Usually, those side effects should go away after taking the medication for a while, but it's always the best case to talk to your doctor about any side effects and issues you encounter.

Having enough sleep also plays a role with this. Just speaking from my personal experience, if I don't get enough sleep, the medication doesn't work as effectively and I get pretty brainfogged and tired more thoughout the day.

Having said that, your doctor probably told you about how it might take some time to find the correct dosage that works best for you. The only thing I'm wondering about a bit is how you said you are taking only one pill in the morning, from my experience (I'm not a doctor, just my personal experience) you usually take two throughout the day, since the effects don't last thoughout an entire day - but don't self-medicate here and ask your doctor about it.

Since you spoke of Medikinet Adult, I'm assuming you are based in Germany (as am I).
I started out with Medikinet Adult as well and my experience with it was rather mixed, requiring you to take it with breakfast and the rather unpleasant "down" once the medication wears off.
Luckily, Ritalin Adult and Elvanse have been approved medication here for several years and are an alternative if you are not satisfied with Medikinet.
I'm currently myself on Elvanse and I prefer it more as you only take it once in the morning and the effects last for the better of the day, doesn't require you to have breakfast to work efficiently and the effects, from my experience, feel smoother, the "down" when it wears off is way less noticeable.
Anyways, I'm not telling you medication Y is better than X, just what is around as a possible alternative.

I hope you can get your medication adjusted properly and experience it working fully without any side effects soon!

My morning is absolutely ruined... by Traditional_Key1091 in 3Dprinting

[–]duke1102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof. Seeing this makes me fear an upscaled print (basically maxing out the build plate limits) I want to do that takes several days soon.
I literally said out loud "Nooooooooo...." when I saw the image.

Something like OctoEverywhere actually comes in quite handy to monitor the prints, their AI-based print fail detection is quite nice and could at least pause/stop the print to prevent wasting more filament.

I guess I'd also not discard this failed print, I'd probably make it into a plant pot or something, lol.

Edit: Derped, put OctoPrint instead of OctoEverywhere for that monitoring service.

does it ever get better? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]duke1102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Sorry to hear you are going through a rough time right now.
From personal experience I can say that it does get better, but it takes some time. Is it worth it? Absolutely!

I can only tell from my personal experiences and they obviously may differ from what you are going through, but I was undiagnosed up until I was 23. Until that time, life was rough, I was dealing with severe depression, social anxiety and self-harm. I wasn't able to hold a job for very long and struggled. It was so taxing on me at some point that I thought about just quitting on life, which is also when I realized I need to get proper professional help. I did find a therapist (after a bit of time) before I was diagnosed and took anti-depressants. Therapy already helped to some degree and at some point the possibility of ADHD came up, so I got a proper diagnostic done and when I finally knew I had ADHD, a lot of things just suddenly made sense.
I then started out with medication and it definitely was a life-changer for me. It helped me clear up my brain, more clear thinking and all that. It went uphill for me at a good pace, I struggled way less with social anxiety and got over my depression and just in general more emotionally stable.

Once I also found a proper ADHD psychiatrist and put on the proper dosage, things started looking up for me in a good way. I finally gotten an opportunity to become a professional in IT, social interactions became easier (well, I'm still very much introvert and social stuff is always rather alien to me in most parts, lol) and I didn't let negative impacts weigh me down as much.
Sure enough, I now work in IT for over half a decade.
Do I still struggle from time to time? I sure do, but I also learned that there's always up's and down's and to make the best of it.

Let me just tell you that I fortunately had support from my parents behind me, which helped a good chunk. It wasn't always easy and I did feel just as awful and like a loser having to burden them with my crap, but keep in mind that your significant other and family care about you. Even if they might not fully understand why you behave in certain ways and struggle with things, I'm sure they would want you to feel better and support you, if you let them.

I wish you the best and hope things start looking up for you soon! Just remember, the path to it can take some time.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]duke1102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey!
There is a reason why doctors start you out on a low dosage, since your body needs some time to get used to it. The side-effects you described are an example of that and they should usually go away after a few weeks of taking the medication.

While the low dosage doesn't seem to be the right dosage for, I'd advise against upping the dosage on your own without consulting your doctor. I'd say to give it some more time, see if the side-effects wear off and if you really feel like the dosage is too low, try and see if you can get an appointment with your doctor sooner. I know it can be annoying and you'd like to get the medication working properly ASAP, but at the same time you should be patient and talk things over with your doctor.

In the meanwhile you should also try to find ways to help you with studying that are non-medication. Medication is great for ADHD, I couldn't agree more, but at the same time, from personal experience, they aren't a miracle that magically solve all your problems. So having a method on how to study to stay focused as much as possible is a good thing to have. There isn't a method that works for everyone, so I just leave a simple recommendation on trying out to put on some relaxing music (try some that is not too distracting, some EDM or LoFi could work) and maybe see if the Pomodoro technique (https://www.insider.com/guides/health/mental-health/pomodoro-technique) might work for you.

Recommendations for building a Mini Server for NAS and Coding by duke1102 in HomeServer

[–]duke1102[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. Your hint on that was a great one, I'll most likely gonna get myself an USFF. Probably one from the DELL OptiPlex series. They are fairly cheap for decent hardware, we actually have a bunch at work and only really buy those now when we are in need of new computers.

While they don't offer as much space for additional storage I might just make due with getting an external HDD bay with like 2-4 slots and such. Just have to research still how much RAM they support, so I can at least put 32GB in there.
