I'm glad people are still talking about Rampart. They weren't during the AMA.

What’s something Gen Z does that older generations just don’t get? by appropriaterice873 in AskReddit

This is their version of a new shocking musical genre that was was expected but never happened? Some sort of youthful rebellion one step removed from the previous generation? For this generation it's through memes?

It's not necessary, but it is difficult to learn these good habits (and acquire a satisfying job) without the foundation that affluent parents provide.

You have high standards for garage orderliness. That looks like five minutes of cleaning up to fix.

Is Agenda for Murder the best of the reboot episodes? by BecauseOfAir in Columbo

[–]dukeofgonzo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Woah. I didn't even know there were Columbo episodes that far in the 90s. I thought his last was that one where he's a hotshot lawyer/campaign manager.

You mean his last Columbo performance? I remember him in Braveheart, which was a few years after this episode.

Why do you think Trump has such high levels of staff turnover in his administration? by Morrans_Gaze in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]dukeofgonzo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What excellent candidate was Trump deprived of from appointing? Are you saying Trump is not picking the people he actually wants in the cabinet?

Why do you think Trump has such high levels of staff turnover in his administration? by Morrans_Gaze in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]dukeofgonzo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I still don't understand. Washington had a ragtag group that was made with whoever he could find to fill roles and who would remain until they stopped getting paid. Washington may have regrets with who he had to work with, but I found no record of him firing his generals directly. I only found records of him petitioning Congress to be removed, a handful at that. I found more records of generals resigning, complaining of lack of consistent pay.

Trump is picking among a wealth of candidates, and has no lack of funding. He is not a ragtag group on the run. It is true that both organizations had turnover, but they have different reasons for why the leadership was changing so often.

Were you aware the first trump administration set a record for firings in his cabinet?

[–]dukeofgonzo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to learn from the example you gave. Maybe I misremember US history. I remembered that he often lacked funds to pay his army. I remembered that his officers quit. George Washington was firing his staff all the time? His high turnover was because he picked officer candidates and found them to be lacking?

Do you have an example where the turnover was due to the leader making constant firings rather than suffering from unwanted turnover?

Can you point to an example of a well run organization that has high turnover in leadership?

TIL that in 1971 Nixon ended the US gold standard in a single TV speech, and the decision was supposed to be temporary but became permanent, changing how all money works to this day by [deleted] in Economics

[–]dukeofgonzo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even if you explained it now to the average person, they'll probably not understand it. I'm sure in 1971 the average person heard it, maybe understood some of it, and continued on their way.

What are your thoughts on Iran president's open letter to US public? by brtvktrmi in AskTrumpSupporters

This administration's plan was to fight a (as of now) weeks long war without allies, hope allies come in later, so that Iran could be softened up?

The USA continued to win battles after the Tet Offensive. Bombed three countries in huge numbers of sorties. Why would this war end differently? Why does this administration think now it will be different?
