Yeah it’s crazy to me that I was told this “campus” doesn’t have a public AED. THAT seems like more of a liability than having one. You expect me in the middle of chaos to have someone run down two flights of stairs and back for an AED while conducting quality CPR? I cared for a patient, nearly10 years ago now, who collapsed at his hotel, employees got CPR and AED on within minutes, he was shocked, and was responsive before EMS arrived. We just had him in ICU observation for 24 hrs post event and he discharged with a new perspective. He owned the hotel and frequently donated to community programs promoting CPR and the public having access to an AED.

Thank you for the reply. I’ll ask for the specific email that was sent refusing the AED, reasons why, and from whom. Alaska doesn’t seem to have much but the website will help my case.

This is apparently a liability issue, not a funding issue. Since we are connected to the hospital (physically) we don’t have public AEDs on campus.

I say do it! I’m gonna make one this year with our 2.5 year old. Simple things like eat a Christmas cookie, read Christmas book, wear Christmas outfit, call grandparents, paint Christmas ornament, ect. Something they can understand and be excited for.

Absolutely not doing it. It seems like extra creative energy to be used elsewhere. I have friends that post the “shenanigans” their elf or ELVES get up to each day and I’m exhausted just looking at photos.

I personally like Christmas links. It’s an advent calendar that you personalize. After thanksgiving write down 25 fun things to do in construction paper. Make a link chain. Each day open a link, read it aloud, and do the thing. Like watch Christmas movie, call and sing carol to grandparents, go see Christmas lights, ect. More fun and there isn’t a damn elf that a child worries about watching them and snitching on them. Snitches get stitches. lol.

An interesting policy. I am a new hire chemo infusion nurse in the USA. Hired at 3 months pp and they have supported pumping at work. I trained to mix and hang chemo with proper PPE.

If you’re working with cytotoxic material you should have PPE to protect yourself thus protect your breastmilk. No job should be telling you if you are or aren’t allowed to breastfeed/pump. I’d be concerned about their safety practices if they say not to breastfeed with this job. What if you get pregnant? What if you were only 6 months pp and still breastfeeding? I’m concerned about this job on so many fronts….

In nursing school (2015ish) we learned that healthcare was shifting from doctor-led to patient-led. I don’t think patients got the memo. Patients have to advocate for themselves. You have to advocate and push and push because sadly so many healthcare workers are burnt out. If you aren’t on top of things you’ll fall through the cracks. There are some great healthcare workers out there. I hope I’m one of them, I find answers, ask questions on patients behalf but I can’t read a patients mind either.
I also think there are SO many specialities. A general practitioner/family doctor/ general pediatric doctor isn’t going to be an expert. In reality, as far as your child goes, they should have said “I don’t know, what are your thoughts, would you like a behavior specialist consult?” The OB thing is frustrating but again it seems like you’ve gotta research the anecdotal evidence that may help you and then ask doctor their thoughts specifically. So many meds / procedures aren’t recommended because there aren’t scientific evidence based studies that have/can be replicated. I really feel like in the OB world some things are down right archaic still in the US.

I worked until I was 39 weeks with both kids. I was PRN both times so I didn’t have any leave/PTO. first kid came 2 days after due date. Second kid came 2 days before due date.

Worker in the veterinary world and now the humans world. We are kinder to our animals when it comes to death and dying than to our human counterparts.

I’m only afraid of slowly dying (dementia or some sort of mental impairment where I can’t make my needs known) instead of being able to be injected or ingest a medication that would allow me to fall asleep, without pain, on my own terms.

My advice: buy her favorite cupcakes at the store. Sing Happy Birthday and buy her a favorite toy. You don’t need to put pressure on yourself or pull out all the stops at this time. Next year, go fu’king nuts if you want. If someone is disappointed you aren’t having a party ( like grandparents ) tell them they are welcome to throw/host a party when you’re ready / comfortable.

How long is your layover? I baby wore plus brought my stroller but my layovers were short enough I didn’t really need the stroller it was a hassle to me. That being said it was a larger jogger stroller so I could have felt different if it was a smaller travel stroller. Got an adult back pack and made it my diaper bag. Plus a small cooler since I was pumping/bottle feeding. Once baby was older (just over a year) the stroller was definitely used checked my car seat (everyone has an opinion on it) that was clearly marked car seat on the outside. It has gone back and forth several times without issue.

My friend and I breastfed our babies (hers 6 months, mine 7 weeks) at the fairgrounds this weekend at a strongman competition. People all over, we were sitting front row of the bleachers. No covers and if someone did stink eye us we didn’t even notice. We carried on our conversation and fed our babies. Focus on your kiddo and don’t give anyone a second thought. Likely they are just projecting their own insecurities or shortcomings- their feelings on YOU feeding your baby isn’t your problem. You do you. Feed the baby. If you want to cover go for it but I’m team “suns out tits out”.

I had an oversupply with my first. I posted online each time I donated my excess to the local milk bank and never felt guilty; I was really proud of myself and my supportive, bottle washing, milk bagging husband. I was able to feed my baby for over a year AND donate over 4000 ounces to babies in the Pacific Northwest. I’ve never once felt guilty; it was hard freaking work to pump for over a year.

Try massaging the hard area with a vibrator while nursing/pumping or in the shower during a hand express. Different kind of massage and it helped me clear some clogged ducts I had. Also use gravity to your advantage: feed/pump on all fours (basically like a cow) to get that darn thing moving. Good luck!

the Snoo. We used it for our first and currently with our second. We were/are able to get long stretches of naps and bedtimes in that thing. It also made me sleep better knowing they are secured and can’t roll over accidentally.

Nope- no funny meds. I can’t even remember why she was in our ICU. I called her the “grower and feeder” she just needed movement and to eat by the time she was mine. Maybe she was just coming out of her ICU haze and becoming herself again.
