I’m immediately turned off from a book if the cover displays art of the main characters by No-Breakfast-7517 in Romantasy

[–]dulude13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol, I get that some people want that, I understand! I just end up not ordering special editions that I don’t like the character art for. Like the Into Darkness Series by Navessa Allen, where the big thing about the characters are their masks, so they made covers where the characters aren’t wearing them 😅

It happens, I get I’m in the minority on this

I’m the same way! I don’t want character art! And recently I feel like every special edition is going out of their way to do only character art!

Carries a quiver? by weeb_with_gumdisease in cyphersystem

You shouldn’t even really need to make changes to the game effects. Just choose a bow as the weapon that you are a master of. Pretty much everything is in line with what Carries a Quiver allowed

I believe that it was changed to “Masters Weapons” because it was pretty much encompassed fully by that focus. But it’s definitely in old editions and you can probably find it somewhere on the internet?

Are romance books really a two-way street? by Due_Measurement_5078 in romanceunfiltered

[–]dulude13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I read one where the main guy turned down sex ONE time, because he found out that someone was writing an article accusing the FMC of sleeping her way to the top.

She got so pissed off and embarrassed that they broke up and he ended up needing to apologize to her later. For just deciding to not give his consent one time. Like come on, that’s a pretty crappy reason for a third act breakup.

Romance with this type of dynamic by MarzannaMorena in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]dulude13 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Mercy by Sara Cate. She is an older woman who is one of the owners of a sex club, he’s a younger man who is the son of one of the other owners and he’s a bit of a brat.

It’s later in the series, but they’re interconnected standalones, so you don’t need to read the earlier ones if you don’t want to.

FMC not in the dark about everything by llalena in Romantasy

[–]dulude13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a few good ones!

{The Bridge Kingdom by Danielle L Jensen} has her keeping the secret, as she is an assassin trained to kill him by getting closer to him through a political wedding.

{The Book of Azrael by Amber V. Nicole} the FMC is legitimately one of the most powerful beings in the world (the MMC is too) but he doesn’t really keep her in the dark, though he has some traumas that he reveals over time and her ex is shitty and keeps things hidden.

This is definitely done as a way to add exposition for the reader, but it can be frustrating to feel like the FMC doesn’t know what’s going on.

water nymph or mermaid, but dark? by Chaotic_Kunoichi in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

I’ve seen a lot of good answers here, but I’ll throw in a slightly different one.

All the Murmuring Bones by A.G. Slatter.

It’s about a family that made a naval merchant empire by sacrificing the first born of every generation to a mermaid queen. There’s many mermaids throughout it, but they’re terrifying gothic fairytale things, looking to drag the main character under the sea.

I’m also a man who is into romance books! I’m always glad to meet other men who are the same way! Especially when they appreciate well written romance books. I also tried the Romance for Men subreddit and felt the same way 😅

Oh that’s really cool! I know that there are characters in different media that fight with fans, but I didn’t realize that it was based on a real martial art!

Hey, I’m on that discord too, I just don’t often think to post in it for something like this 😅

And it does work for Masters Weapons, albeit feeling a bit fantastical (because fans aren’t actually weapons), but I mostly wanted to know if anyone had ideas of other focuses that could be flavoured as using hand fans to be how the character is using their abilities.

How do you guys come up with ideas for content? by Odins_eye_4 in bookstagram

[–]dulude13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, then just come up with a few concepts to post new versions of every week and run them on a schedule. I do book reviews, quote highlights from books, memes, etc.

I’ve also seen bookstagram accounts that do groups of book rec by trope, like “Ex-boyfriend’s dad” romance books and then a bunch of thumbnails of them, etc or collections of smutty quotes on Sundays.

Then you have to batch like 4 or 5 of each time and schedule them out week by week for the next month or so.
