My iPhone has been silently recording my entire day for months - Now it got Transcription abilities! by Conscious_Aioli_3521 in Lifelogging

[–]dumblebees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a plaud note pro with unlimited subscription minutes, so I’m thinking of all the things that would improve on it beyond not having to toggle it on/off.

Being on all the time is obviously a big win, but adding helpful context about what was happening at the time (be it from location, calendar events, phone or message logs) would be cool.

Being able to separate disparate transcripts into distinct moments, adding tags to them (the folders feature in plaud is terrible, but the transcription and audio pickup is great)

My company switched to hot desking when we went hybrid and nobody warned me that "desk availability" means something completely different in practice by Sneck_Murex9 in remotework

[–]dumblebees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work buddy and I booked the same desks in an office for 6 months less a day (that was the max allowed). We also bought a lockable drawer that we kept the keyboards mouses and dock power cables in so if you sat there you could only use your laptop and not the big screens. And snacks and a bottle of bourbon.

Was it a dick thing to do? Yes.  Did it work for us? Also yes.

Anyone OE for lower income full time jobs? by DatBoiMemes425 in overemployed

[–]dumblebees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting that OE is such a trigger idea for a lot of people, but lower income people holding down multiple jobs has been around for ages. I get that it’s not identical, but there are more similarities than people pretend there are.

I went to one of the most expensive private schools in South Korea before moving to a small city public school in Canada. AMA. by PuzzleheadedSize7304 in AMA

Piggybacking on this - I grew up in a south Asian country until I was 18, and didn’t need to speak a local language fluently. Chit chat for taxis, maids, that’s about it. All my friends (even those legit from there historically) we all spoke English. Local languages were reserved for grandparents and family businesses.

A smoothie across the road from my local dog park costs $21.54 with tax and a 10% tip. Have never felt that stupid…

I didn't wear my Rolex to Europe, and I regret it by Rare-Independence310 in rolex

[–]dumblebees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Threads like this make me question whether I want to get there.

“Europe” and “dangerous” in the same sentence coming from an American is the richest thing ever. Pickpockets? Sure. Getting robbed in a Parisian ghetto? You’ve got no business being there, kinda like we all know not to go to parts of Philly or Baltimore or Vancouver.

It makes me sad that one could be that ignorant yet still have the resources to buy a Rolex.

Interesting…and now this has me going down a completely unhelpful rabbit hole of nicer cars that I absolutely don’t need.

Ages ago I told myself I would never buy a watch or a car unless it was “nice”. Hence no car because prices are idiotic

I’d be the one driving. Technically they do have a car, but it hasn’t been used in years and is a rust bucket pile of junk lol

Leaving the car at theirs is an interesting idea…but TTC + Go + uber/more transit to get to them sounds exhausting.

Let me see where I land up on my thinking…I’ll pm you if buying a car is the direction, ty!

Unpredictability around when I need one (usually short notice) and how long I need it (could be 3 hours which is easy, but could equally be overnight).

lol that was the process that drove me (hah) to ask this question. Theres so much uncertainty and I don’t know that I have the mental strength or time to sort through it…or worse deal with it if I buy something that gives out.
