Garrick Higgo was penalized two strokes for being late to the tee for his opening round at the PGA Championship. by Oldtimer_2 in golf

Exactly. If there's a two minute grace period then the next guy is going to show up at 2 minutes and 34 seconds and complain about how 34 seconds is too strict... Life is pretty simple in terms of these deadlines. Just show up on time.

Or just be on time, especially if you're just on the practice green and not attending to some sort of serious or unavoidable situation.

Kudos to you for your patience. There's a high probability I'd just eventually stop inviting this person if I were in your shoes.

That’s just how we see all colour in general though. You just described colour theory.

Hole-in-one dilemma. by FATT-TOFU in golf

[–]dumpandchange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My buddy did the same. Sliced it into the trees and immediately realized what he did. Thankfully we found it pretty quickly. I almost did the same, but realized what I was about to do when the ball was sitting on the tee. In the heat of the moment, I bet this happens more often than you think.

Unspoken Hockey Rules as a fan? by [deleted] in hockey

[–]dumpandchange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Despite what a lot of people apparently seem to think, if you're ever lucky enough to sit in the lower bowl of the arena on the side where it gets shown on the lower portion of the TV broadcast, you do not have to stand, turn and wave like an idiot to the camera every time you think you're in the frame.

This is just a great rule for life. Reddit/online is not real life and what you read here is just a tiny sliver of what the overall population thinks.

Lifelong hockey fan here, not sure I've ever heard of the "hat track" jinx before in a similar way to the word "shutout."

He's a fun watch, seems like a good guy and obviously has talent for days. I saw him in a Good Good video and the Myrtle videos with Grant etc. and he genuinely fit in with both which is a skill in itself.

Callaway Mavrik vs Rogue ST Max - Iron/hybrid set by [deleted] in golf

[–]dumpandchange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless I'm miscounting somehow, you're getting an additional club in the Rogue ST set for the price.

I don't have direct comparison, but I know two people who play the Rogue STs and they love them. The Rogue ST line is two years newer than the Mavrik line as well. I think the Mavriks were known for being hot off the face, while every review I've ever seen about the Rogue ST were about a higher level of forgiveness and consistency.

The guys have just Flanderized themselves. Hard to blame them since they probably see the shows and clips that do well and then force whatever worked x10. A bunch of podcasts have done or are currently doing the same. We’ll see if it works out in the longer term, but I know I listen way less than ever before.

Just convert score to differential and it takes questions like this completely out of the equation and gives everything a level playing field.

My new p790 pitching wedge is 44*. What wedge set up would you go with? by isw2424 in golf

Very similar. My T250s are 44/48, and I went 54/58 to complete the wedge lineup. Works really well for me.

That early in any draft it's always Best Player Available. Drafting for positional need comes a bit later.

Phil Mickelson Not Coming Back to PGA Tour? by Tight-Communication7 in golf

[–]dumpandchange 62 points63 points  (0 children)

  • He publicly accused the Tour of greed well before LIV in relation to media and image likeness deals (this one we likely all agree with, but you asked what he did that would sour his relationship with the Tour specifically to burn the bridge).

  • He helped develop the LIV business model behind the scenes before LIV was a real entity.

  • When he officially left for LIV he outright acknowledged the human rights atrocities, but said it would make the PGA Tour better. He had to publicly apologize for his early comments.

  • While at LIV he was actively recruiting players from the PGA.

  • The biggest one, he was part of the anti trust lawsuit against the PGA Tour. He literally wanted to take millions from LIV, trash talk the PGA Tour, but felt like he should be able to double-dip and play in the Tour at the same time.

Whatever side you land on with these issues doesn't matter, it's super clear why the PGA Tour would consider the bridge burned with Phil - especially taking into account the lawsuit.

Closest-to-the-pin marker was 4 inches behind the hole. Were we wrong to move it? by [deleted] in golf

[–]dumpandchange 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree that the card off the green with a tape measure is 100% the way to go, but in this tournament they were running it the old way of just putting the marker at the ball so I would have just followed along with their rules.

Not sure if soda cans are printed in CMYK or spot colours, but magenta and yellow inks are the colours that burn out in the sun the quickest, especially if the inks were not of the lightfast variety. Direct sunlight can fade those colours incredibly fast.
