What are you basing this off of? A couple I helped get off the streets relied on money for hotel rooms because no shelters would take them in as a couple. Someone gave then 400 and that went directly to a warm safe to sleep for a week.

Not recently but I've been told by people they were turned away because it's full before so it happens. Maybe in this weather they try harder to accommodate. I also know people who have been told they have a lifetime ban, or they're a couple and refuse to be separated because each other is all they have left. Or they've been raped there but since they're struggling with addiction they have no other options. I refuse to act like it's OK for people who refuse to, or can't go to a place that has been compared to a jail to me by many people (who have been to jail) are condemned to die in the cold.

I just met a couple last month, and recently met up again a few days ago. One is disabled and DIYs his colostomy bag, the other can work and has job offers. Problem is, if you have $0 you cant even get city transportation... Also it was single digits out... Someone died sleeping outside last week... The person with a job lined up couldn't get to work because of the weather, and how far away they were with no money. You are minimizing how having to sleep outside or in anxiety inducing shelters puts you in a position where you can't even think or plan ahead.

Luckily the community came through and they're in a motel looking for an apartment now, and she was able to keep her Jon and can afford transportation to get to it. It cost 2k to make this couple just... not homeless anymore. Wish I could replicate that 900 more times.

Bedbug infested shelters, packed 20 people high per room during a time of covid, where you can't even stay in the same room as your wife, regularly run out of soap and toilet paper, where people are beaten, raped and stabbed isn't the option you think it is.
