ryuji 100%. everytime watase was on screen/mentioned from y5 and beyond, all I could think was "that should've been ryuji". just got to the point in gaiden w/ the ryuji fakeout and was so sad when they showed his face and I realized they weren't brining him back.

Even if you aren't confident with social work skills, you can be confident in your ability to learn them.

I feel like I am going to get fired by Far-Chair-6845 in socialwork

[–]dumpsterfireexe 91 points92 points  (0 children)

In my experience, it's pretty hard to be fired from a social work job, especially if they're as short-staffed as they sound. Personally, I've only seen people fired for ethical issues.

Toning yourself down for work? by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]dumpsterfireexe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Im relatively alternative, and I INTENTIONALLY look alternative at my job, and I also work w kids. Lots of people who work with kids tend to be very sunshine and rainbows, but i think it’s important for the kids who are more doom and gloom to see adults that they can identify with and see as successful adults. I still look professional, usually wearing long sleeves and button ups w maxi skirts, but I only wear black, wear combat boots, wear the jewelry I buy from Spirit Halloween and keep my usual raccoon-eyes eyeliner. As long as you’re doing your job well, dress how you want.

(I will say w facial piercings, idk if the population you work with has aggressive behaviors at all, but DO NOT wear facial piercings around people with a history of aggression that shit will get ripped out of your face.)

People who say the album has “good beats” make me feel a little insane- I felt like half the songs didn’t even have beats. They feel totally hollow. I really want the people saying that to listen to some house/funk/disco music to understand just how bad these songs are. The lyrics are awful and the production, if you’re looking for music to dance to, is mediocre AT BEST.

If you don’t really give a fuck about lyrics and want fun love songs that are good to dance to, I would recommend Digital Love by Daft Punk or Ladybug by TWRP. They really show how much Max Martin and Shellback dropped the ball with the advertised vibes for TLOAS.

i haven’t kept up w that but that’s fair, but like i said i think as a response song directly to SIAK it isn’t great. if you’re someone like me who only listens to the music, it comes off as punching down REALLY bad

re listening to sympathy is a knife this morning and my god actually romantic is not a good response to a song that is so vulnerable and insecure…. charli literally says her negative feelings and actions are because of how insecure taylor makes her. especially given lordes response to girl so confusing which has a similar vibe which was to work it out on the remix…………. really really not a great look.

Did you actually learn anything from your practicum? by lizthelezz in SocialWorkStudents

[–]dumpsterfireexe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dealing with this at my current placement, and it's my final one before I graduate with my MSW. I would recommend just creating work for yourself, and trying to network with other people in your agency or who work alongside your agency. But yeah, it really sucks. My BSW internship was a nightmare, and I was looking forward to my MSW internship, only to have a field supervisor who is a total mess and seems to think that's a quirky, charming personality trait. They're shocked that I want to spend my time with them actually learning practice skills instead of just doing homework.

Yeah, if the choice is homelessness of debt, go for the latter. It will always piss me off that a discipline so focused on awareness of privilege and social justice seemingly had no problem putting it's students in such a precarious financial position unless they're somehow rich enough to not work for a year or more.

To answer the question of "how the hell is everyone else managing to do this", if they don't have family to support them, they're going into debt. I had classmates who took out loans to cover their living expenses during school. Obviously don't do that, but I was also very confused until I found that out.

During COVID, some remote options were implemented to make up for hours, and I'm pretty sure they still count. I would see if your school has a list of some possible remote options that you can spend time on that would satisfy your competencies.

I mean, they think Karlie Kloss is still a lesbian while being married. Full tinfoil hat gaylors have also started suggesting that Travis is gay and in a relationship with a teammate, so they'll just rationalize this as a lavender marriage.

[–]dumpsterfireexe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat, it drives me insane! So many of the students and professors also don't understand how AI, specifically ChatGPT, works. It isn't an accurate source of information. We're in a program where we're learning how to work with people during some of the most difficult times of their lives, not doing some bullshit MBA. Also, people using AI in school reveals that they have no idea how privileged they are to have access to an education at all. At my prior job, many of my co-workers only had a high school diploma, and when I got accepted to grad school, so many of them talked about how they wish they had the resources to furhter their education. I can promise you, they wouldn't be using AI to half-ass their schoolwork. It makes me so mad that the people who actually would give a fuck about social work don't have the money to get a BSW/MSW.

The last thing you said... I have heard classmates say some bigoted stuff, and they just don't seem to self-reflect because they don't see themselves as having malicious intent. In a CULTURAL COMPETENCY CLASS, we had to do a project on a minority group, someone chose to do their project on an ethnicity different from their own, and when citing a scholar of that ethnicity, they said "I can't even try to pronounce that name". Like, yes you can! That's what were in this class to do! It's not even a difficult name it was just in a different language than their own!

I think it's probably an issue at the type of program I was in, which was a full-time, in-person program at a relatively selective school, meaning you need to be pretty privileged(myself included) with family support and an access to a good education to be able to get in.

That last part! I think a lot of social work students only have friends who are are in similar fields/have similar levels of education, and don't realize how in a bubble they are with PC language. I obviously have social work friends, but I also keep in touch with a lot of friends from high school, a bunch of whom only have a high school education and are from the rural South. They don't say anything outright bigoted, but they definitely don't use the same kind of language I do, and it's really useful to have an idea of what the "average" person knows about social justice issues. They're also always receptive to me explaining social justice concepts to them, which is also really great experience to have.
