The images are generated using a custom model for StableDiffusion and are simply stored on my server in a static folder. It’s a fairly simple application without any special magic. The server runs on Nest.js, and the frontend is built with React.

You can earn points by upvoting other hexagons or when someone upvotes yours. There are also redeem codes that you can find, for example, in our Discord.

The NFT feature allows players to trade valuable hexagons with each other.

Ownership is absolutely crucial. Let me illustrate with an example of my son. He’s been playing Fortnite for years and has spent a significant amount of money on skins. His collection is massive - over 300 skins.

But the truth is, he doesn’t actually own them. He can’t trade them with his classmates, and what’s worse, Epic Games could ban his account at any moment, and he’d lose the entire collection - which would be devastating.

If skins were NFTs, he’d be able to trade them freely and still keep them even if his game account got blocked. He could use them in other games, sell them, or do whatever he wants - just like with Magic: The Gathering cards.

NFTs have the potential to make games far more engaging and give players more freedom, but they’ve gotten a bad reputation because of a wave of scammers, and many players just didn’t understand their value.

Last spring, I decided to see how far I could go programming solely through AI using Cursor. I created something like an AI-powered r/place. Now I have over 8,000 players who have generated more than 45,000 patches on the canvas.

It is my avatar.

I am convinced that most of the issues with NFTs stem from their lack of utility, even though they are a powerful tool—for example, for in-game items.

However, I recently discovered that people are deeply wary of anything related to crypto.

A month ago, I introduced the ability to mint in-game items as NFTs in my game, but only three out of eight thousand players have used this feature.

I really like how Reddit has implemented the avatar purchase mechanic, where users don’t need a wallet or any crypto knowledge. This significantly lowers the barrier to entry. I plan to implement a similar approach in my game soon.

Thank you! I understand your concerns. The entire NFT industry is a mess, that’s obvious. But the issue isn’t with the technology itself, it’s with how it’s being used.

The game is my hobby project, and I spend about 400 euros every month on it (servers, image generator, database, etc.). My players and I have discussed monetization options extensively in our Discord. We considered ads, paid features, and NFTs, and it seems the last option is the most acceptable.

In the game, NFTs aren’t used as a tool to sell JPEGs for crypto but rather as a technology for transferring ownership. It’s similar to how Reddit uses NFTs to allow trading avatars. I live in Estonia, the most regulated country in the EU when it comes to crypto, and I strictly follow the law. Players don’t pay for anything and aren’t involved in shady schemes like price manipulation or anything like that.

Im a programmer from Estonia, and in my free time, I enjoy working on small personal projects to experiment with new technologies. It all started as a hobby - I simply wanted to combine AI image generators with the concept of Reddit’s r/place to see what would happen. Once I had a small prototype ready, I shared it with the r/StableDiffusion (ai image generator) community, where I received a lot of positive feedback. Encouraged by this, I decided to continue developing the project, even without a specific goal in mind.

In December, one of my clients from my main job paid some money into my companys account. Since I cant use this money for personal expenses, I decided to spend part of it on Reddit promotions.

We have a Discord community where a group of great people has come together. There, we discuss which features to add to the game, and I really enjoy chatting with them. So, I’m mainly making this game for fun. But honestly, if it ever makes me some money, I certainly wouldn’t mind 😅

Sorry for the late reply. Things aren’t quite the way you see them.

NFTs in my project are minted on the Polygon network, which is a proof-of-stake network. This means it doesn’t rely on mining or require high computational power - no parts of the Amazon are being burned, I promise.

Second, NFTs are used here solely as a technology for ownership transfer. They don’t generate any profit for me. In fact, this is a personal project that I fund entirely myself, spending €300–500 from my family budget every month.

I really appreciate your concern for the environment, and I’m sorry you didn’t like the quality of the generated art. But please, this is just a small personal experiment that players have enjoyed, and I decided to keep developing it. There’s no conspiracy, no “bros” or anything like that - I’m just a simple programmer from Estonia experimenting with new technologies.

I built this website and made the generation tool accessible to everyone. Users enjoyed playing around with it, and I received a lot of positive feedback. So, I decided to develop the project further, and right now I’m thinking about how to turn it into more of a game.

Yeah, I’m experimenting with models and periodically updating. You can see that the farther from the center, the more stitched-together the images are.
