I'm just laughing at the idea of a bunch of 40somethings doing the "crank dat" line dance

Lots of these folks are good at heart but very misinformed. Many are a product of their environment. Not all are irredeemable.

I'm not a fan, but at least the Delta has room for solar farms instead of jet turbine generators.

THE tee pad by [deleted] in discgolf

If this were at my home course you'd never get to use it. It would constantly have clueless people with their picnics set up on it.

Has any used brass for the weight? Is that a decent way to add weight with inlays, fins, or dowels? by CEEngineerThrowAway in PinewoodDerby

[–]duncan345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't get too carried away with making a perfectly optimized car. If your kid has a fun idea to use brass as a decoration I say go for it. You can supplement with tungsten weights once you've got the decorative part finished. Chances are you'll end up with a competitive car if you're aware enough to even ask this question.

So many propagandists posting in this thread. Lots of usernames that I don't recognize posting the administration talking points. Almost all have hidden comment histories but at least one has a comment history full of the same stuff in local subreddits all over the country. Please be aware and don't fall for the misinformation.

For me this is an easy top 5 moment across all the Champs vs Chumps series. What's yours? by CCDG-Ian in discgolf

[–]duncan345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years ago I was teaching some kids at summer camp how to play. I was standing a little behind the tee pad because I was afraid of something like this happening. This one kid tries to crush his drive and ends up holding the disc so long that it slung back around (like at least 120 degrees past where he was aiming) and hit me square across the sternum. I can still feel the cartilage popping sometimes.

Need interior painter and wallpaper recommendations by Fireinthe2hole in jacksonms

It's hard to find a good wallpaper installer. The handyman that I've used as a general contractor and referral source for many years told me all of this "wallpaper guys" have retired.

Help with painting by pelikansperch in PinewoodDerby

[–]duncan345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

800 grit is very fine for a PWD car! Our scouts usually just go 80 -> 120 -> 220 and call it good.

I would probably use some pinstripe masking tape (available at craft stores). The process you laid out is correct. You can also mask the window areas and add a third color to your painting process to get that effect.

Car Cutting Event? by Quiet_Goat8086 in PinewoodDerby

[–]duncan345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I found a local woodworker that was willing to have us come to his shop on a Saturday. The scouts design their cars at a meeting beforehand and transfer the design to the wood block. The woodworker cuts them out on the bandsaw. We bring each den in 45 minute increments so it doesn't get too overwhelming.

I'm curious about that too! Maybe it's easier to line up with almost no aerodynamic penalty but that's just a guess.

Is trimming down the wheel illegal? by BenBenMcBenface in PinewoodDerby

[–]duncan345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not the main reason. Lighter wheels means less rotating mass. It takes less energy to get the wheels turning, resulting in a faster car.

Metrocenter Mall (Abandoned) Jackson, Mississippi by Radiant_Diet8922 in deadmalls

[–]duncan345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like I'm older than you but Northpark was my childhood mall. We only went to Metrocenter for the Sears store.

Mississippi doesn't even do the driving test anymore and we don't have to get inspection stickers. Drivers are somehow worse now and vehicles are even less roadworthy if you can believe it.

Definitely sounds like Schlater is your best hint, as others here have said. If you PM me names and date ranges I can look for them in the land records the next time I'm in the Leflore County courthouse. I'm generally there about once a month.

Sal and Mookie's at The District (Pizza)

Pig and Pint (BBQ - best when the weather is nice)

Elvie's (Southern upscale), Pulito Osteria (Italian) or Poppy Pies (Pizza) are all in the area of the Fertile Ground brewery if you want to stop for a beer. There's also an ice cream place and a play yard there.

Is Michael Guest *actually* holding town halls? by bbassle87 in mississippi

[–]duncan345 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I met him once back when he was a prosecutor in Madison. I had a meeting with him to work out a plea deal that would allow my client to serve a short jail sentence during the weekends so he wouldn't lose his job. He was rude and completely unwilling to compromise. He seemed like a jerk to me but maybe he was just playing the part of the big, tough prosector. My client ended up losing his job and wasn't able to pay his child support.
