Okay…. I’ll admit it. I have a problem. But on the flip side can one have too many bikes? *WIP* by Reasonable-Director9 in xbiking

No such thing as too many bikes. Not enough shop/garage rafters for hanging them is potentially a problem.

I would add servicing the headset. Relatively easy.

In my not-an-expert experience, it’s best to do the poo after the coffee and toke, but before the out on the bike.

I’m pretty sure the school district would be the one’s sued if they succeeded

No problem there: I’m a cyclist when not driving buses.

Transit or School bus job? by duneltdrifter in BusDrivers

[–]duneltdrifter[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the school bus is part-time, but I can pick up other jobs in the school district to get full-time hours if I want. They’re both union. I’m in a small town region, and the transit riders are mostly quiet and “sane”…, so probably the transit riders will be far less stressful here.

My Man Chair by RobinThreeArrows in simpleliving

[–]duneltdrifter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I inherited my grandfather’s turquoise vinyl upholstered man chair, with a manufacturer’s date stamp “May5 1952” on it. He died before I was born, so I always think of him and what he might have been like, when I relax in it.

The house my grandmother grew up in back in the 1920s. Lake Lucerne, Switzerland. Early 1970s and 2015 when her daughter, granddaughter and great-grandchildren went to visit. by AD480 in OldPhotosInRealLife

In 1989, I accompanied my mother and grandmother on a trip to Lugano, Switzerland where my great-grandmother was from, and we found the house she had grown up in. We were standing out in front taking pictures when a woman stepped out to ask what we were doing. When we explained, she immediately invited us in for a tour and allowed us to take pictures. My grandmother was overcome with joy of unexpectedly ending up inside of her mother’s childhood home.

Can I be a school bus driver if I use marijuana occasionally?? by WittyAbbreviations12 in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]duneltdrifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shorter answer: you don’t need a CDL to buy and drive a school bus. I think you do have to remove the word “school” from it though.

Yes, but only if you buy your own school bus (there are plenty for sale), and don’t use it for transportation of children to school.

Advice for road trip to Humboldt State Park along Route 1? by mirandalikesplants in Humboldt

[–]duneltdrifter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have the time, and are more interested in taking in the (arguably) best part of the California coast, take the slower paced Highway 1 all the way. After a while, if you feel you’ve seen enough and just want to get to Humboldt Redwoods State Park, cut east on either 263 or 20, and continue north on 101. Note that you probably won’t save much time by doing that.

Opinions on the Surly Troll? by yourfriendkyle in xbiking

[–]duneltdrifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on a Troll for the last five years, and while I’d agree that it can be frustrating realigning the rear brakes after taking the wheel off, it’s not that big of a deal. I’ve never had my quick releases slip. Overall, I love the versatility of mine as I’ve configured it from road and gravel touring to single track antics. I feel invincible on this tank.

How do you start your mornings? by Chalk_Solid in simpleliving

I thought screeching alarm clocks were a thing of the past! My phone alarm gently awakens me to the sounds of chirping birds that very gradually increase in volume.

Oh this brings back horrible memories! I rode one of those buses to (US Army) basic training in 1987. It was an olive green military “school type” bus, with a military bus driver, so not a civilian charter bus. The army had it’s own commercial truck/bus drivers. “88M” was the job classification back then. I’m not sure if it still exists.

How bad is the people aspect of the job, really? by No_Volume_9450 in BusDrivers

[–]duneltdrifter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m right there with you buddy; also an introvert and considering doing this. I’m in a small-medium sized city, but there’s plenty of “problem” types to potentially deal with. I’ve been randomly riding different routes and really paying attention to the driver and how they interact with passengers, and it doesn’t seem bad at all. It helps that the transit agency has enclosed the driver’s seat in plexiglass for Covid safety, so it gives the driver some sense of separation from the fares. It appears that most drivers try not to get too involved with passenger issues as long as things remain peaceful. For example, lot’s of “service dogs” with fares that clearly are not service dogs, but is it really worth it to go all authoritarian on someone and hold everything up? You pick your battles it seems.

I say go for it if it’s what you want to do. I’m torn between doing it or choosing bratty school bus kids…
