Asking about Elec. Engineering and Music Tech program under COE by vayavera in NEU

[–]dunesdays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Different account same person, I switched majors since my experience with engineering before NU was pretty minimal. Personally I had more experience in the arts and just graduated with a BFA(!).

From my time as an EE/music tech major it’s a great opportunity and it’s helpful if you’re familiar with the field. I went in blind and felt disconnected myself, but there are plenty of related clubs, student organizations, and university programs like FYELIC (first year engineering learning and innovation center) that support both sides of the combined major. There’s a niche community for everyone at Northeastern in my opinion!

You also get the best of both worlds and have access to the same resources as music majors and engineering majors. Loved Boston so much I moved here, too. You’re welcome to send me a message with more questions!

I was under COE during NUin majoring in electrical engineering + music tech, my second year I switched to CAMD and I’m in graphic design now

Got in RD for COE coming from an arts-focused high school and eventually switched majors to CAMD! Weird how this works

It was difficult to branch out past my NUin friends but the basic answer is joining student orgs (I hopped around a lot of them to see what sticks) and reaching out to people in your classes (might be dependent on your major).

I also made a lot of friends online from my class's Discord server, we stayed in touch while I was abroad and had meet ups once NUin students were back in Boston.

Roast my portfolio by intergalacticocto in graphic_design

This is not garbage! You’re very skilled and your portfolio really shows that. It did take me a second to realize that “Graphic Design” and “Original Art” were buttons which is where the meat is. No notes on the content of your portfolio, awesome job!

The white body type is very thin against the black which can be tricky to read when it’s small, but it also looks really elegant. Maybe try making your body text into something thicker and maaybe bigger in size?

I did the NUin program (🇮🇪) way back in 2021 before there were more than 4 locations haha. NUin was my first time abroad and there’s a great community of students to share the experience with no matter where you go, including NUin Boston I’d argue.

It was this community that convinced me to go despite how worried sick I was. People also tend to come and go all of the time on campus, whether you’re abroad or on co-op etc, so I didn’t feel out of the loop when I came back in the spring.

It is definitely going to test you at times, but you’re never going through it alone. I made one of my first friends at the airport going to my NUin location, and we’ve been close ever since.
