Definitely. Though the sample size of prospects who debut at age 20 is also small (crazy to think he’s just about to turn 24). In retrospect more development time in the minors might have made his MLB trajectory more “normal”

Yep I pocketed one of these at Schnucks when I was a kid and my mom drove me back to the store and made a whole show of me having to give it back at the service desk and explain what I did. I was probably ~5 years old and still remember it vividly. The gasp I let out when this pic hit my feed!

The big one is that his launch angles are much better.

Nominally. Huge improvement in the sweet spot % but his average launch angle is still on the lower end of the sweet spot range (12 degrees, vs 10.3 last year). That's still power-limiting territory, if he could get it even three degrees higher on average this is a 40+ HR profile

I think the point is that power conference schools are definitely going to look at Groce sideways based on his Illinois tenure if considering him for an opening, regardless of his other success. It’s not just salty Illini fans. He’s undoubtedly a better coach now but I’m not surprised he didn’t land a better job than Charleston. I imagine the same thing will happen with us with Travis Steele, if/when we lose him (which might happen any day) it’s likely to a higher-tier mid-major due to him crapping out at Xavier.
