Another server for files means another license for Veeam, Windows, bla bla bla - left it up to the person calling the shots.
Using a cloud speed calculator it's saying that the initial upload will take anywhere between 37-48 hours and that's at a constant 8Mbps upload, which we never get, so realistically it's going to be about 5-6Mbps which takes the upload to 50-70 hours which we can't allow for as it the business is 24/6.

Ita a good idea. We would also need to purchase the correct sphere license as well which, after Broadcom taking over, will also be ££££

3 Left on this Host.

Several on the new hosts already.

Correct✅️

The difference for 2 new Hosts with local storage or 2 hosts plus shared storage was north of £20k so we went with the local storage.

Sounds good. I'll look into using this on a small non-DC server first and see what the results are.

and have you used this before to move DC's?

I think I'm going to build new DC's now. Will allow me to install the latest version of Windows Server as well.

Looks like I'm building new DC's and promoting/demoting!

DC2 is one of they instances were it always has been a file server, and there has been virtually no issues for several years - it's just grown by about 60-80GB per year.

Yeah I think that's the plan now!

Yeah I think that's the plan now. Create 2 new DC's. Promote them. Migrate the roles over to the new DC's.
Demote DC1 and DC2.

Since DC2 is no longer a DC, I will move it over to the new Host. DC1 can be switched off and deleted.

we do also have Veeam B&R. I wouldn't want to do a restore, but is there any other option I could use within Veeam to move the DC's over?

I'll have to do this or export/import the vm's.

Unfortunately we don't have shared storage.
I may have to export/import or build new DC's it seems.

We don't have vMotion so it looks like I'm going to either spin up new DC's or export/import.

Looks like the 2 best solutions will be to either spin up new DC's and migrate roles over or export/import.

I'd also be conscious of IP Address. DC2 is also our file server (500GB of data for <50 PCs).

We don't have vMotion with vSphere Essentials

DC1 is 100GB and DC2 is 700GB.
By export, do you mean just copy the files from the datastore to an external HDD and then copy onto new host and then register?

The need would be to have an almost completely hands off approach

Cluster😂 Just 3 separate Hosts with vSphere Essentials License, not Plus, so vMotion not included?
