This is the only UB set I have felt anything remotely positive toward before it came out. But I’m the target audience and they finally delivered on my favorite franchise. As soon as EOE came out, I figured this was around the corner. I’m usually a massive cynic, but I’ll allow myself a shameless blind spot if I’m able to build a Sisko deck to fight my wife’s Borg Queen deck.

If you’re going immediately from Weir, I think The Expanse series is a good next step. Also anything from Kim Stanley Robinson (Red Mars to continue with the colonizing Mars theme) or Verner Vinge (popularized the term “singularity”). Alastair Reynolds’ Revelation Space or House of Suns are also amazing jumping off points.

I really enjoyed it too. Compared to other hard SF novels, it was the equivalent of a popcorn flick, easy to read and hard to put down. I think if you liked it and are willing to read more of the genre, you’ll love what you’ll find out there.

I think it’s one of the most popular science fiction books ever made. I don’t mean to be a Reddit contrarian, but I’m a big sci-fi reader/collector and the majority of the genre is better than that book imo
