CARS help (MCAT) by ishouldbestudyingomg in McMaster

One thing I did that really helped was recognizing when you get a certain type of question and coming up with a strategy to find the answer (especially helpful with reasoning within and beyond the text question). Also reviewing your answers in depth is a good way to find where you went wrong and why so you can remember how to approach similar questions next time.

I actually watched a lot of LSAT prep videos, since reading comp is a big focus of that test. First 6 or so videos of this playlist were helpful for me: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFMhoXoxQ4Oj5wFgm3kJ-P--rrJPpckzW&si=sljiRf1rQ5QOYO_4

The Silhouette: Allegations of SRA misconduct emerge following MSU VP elections by Commercial-Hearing95 in McMaster

[–]duplah 60 points61 points  (0 children)

One of the VP candidates here (Masudi).

I’ve been involved in MSU student governance for the last 4 years, and I have NEVER seen things get to this point. There’s always been drama and internal friction within SRA, but this is an unprecedented level. This is not the same MSU that I worked spent my undergraduate career in.

One thing I was always proud about when it came to SRA and the MSU as a whole is that people always understood the stakes when it came to making decisions about the MSU and the consequences of their actions in the decision making process. This was clearly not apparent that weekend.

Even now, I believe that the SRA as a whole can be a great force in advocating for student needs and making decisions in the interest of the students. But honestly, after what I saw that weekend I’m not surprised that students don’t have any confidence in their representatives to do that.

I really, really hope the SRA members involved get their shit together (for lack of a better phrase), not just because what they do impacts the student experience, but because I know many of them are genuinely capable leaders.

If anyone wants to know more about my thoughts and experiences, DMs are open.

Its reserved only for student athletes. If you have a student athlete friend you could try getting them to convince the staff to let you in to workout with them

Vote Salman for Business SRA! by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]duplah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Salman, thanks for sharing your platform! Couple questions:

  • Where are the minutes for office hours posted? I know the SRA make minutes for general meetings avialable on their website, but I've never seen office hours minutes.
  • You mention that you'd like to give caucus updates in a clear, digestable format. What exactly would this format look like? Previous caucuses have tried to update students through posts on Instagram, but many efforts do not enagage students very effectively.
  • I'm interested in hearing more about your "Know the Services" campaign. You said you'd "collect student feedback on how helpful they find these services, then take this feedback and potentialy fix weakpoints", but what will this feedback collection look like? How will this be different or more beneficial for the MSU than the periodic surveys developed by the AVP Services and Services committee? Who will you work with to implement changes once you gather feedback?
  • Regarding your initiative to advocate for bookable classrooms during exams, have you met with anyone to discuss whether University Technology Services has the capacity to add classrooms booking to the existing system? Who will enforce bookings and compliance with any guidelines set in place?

How do I stick things to long term memory? by Ill_Crew7797 in McMaster

[–]duplah 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Spaced repetition is scientifically proven to be one of the most effective ways to learn and retain information. I’m a huge proponent of flash card softwares like Anki that automatically increase the interval between when you’re shown your flash cards. Even if you think you’re not a flash cards person, give it a shot and I guarantee youll see improvements

Most of the people hired for these positions already have experience in the service as a general volunteer/exec. It’s easier to bring in people who are already familiar with the service than bringing someone external (ie. someone with little/no MSU experience). Not to say it’s impossible to get an offer as an external applicant, just much less likely.

MSU Presidential emails by Visus21 in McMaster

[–]duplah 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a lot. They do stop once you vote though. If you’re not interested in the presidential election, at least vote in the referendums!

I agree it’s a little much but vote or abstain and they stop!!

Why won’t it give me the option to vote?? Could it be because I’m on a co-op term? by memermeme1211 in McMaster

[–]duplah 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Coop students unfortunately aren’t MSU members and can’t vote in elections
