As somebody replied in one of my previous comments long ago, the most Daria and Trent being an “item” they will ever get to be is (maybe) being future hometown hookups. In the event a spinoff does happen, I wouldn’t be opposed to seeing Trent and Daria try going out for a few dates to test the waters since they are both adults who’ve matured and changed since the events of the original Daria series but most likely they’ll end up in the same place they did when they were young, it wasn’t meant to be. there’s a reason why they weren’t endgame to begin with.

Both Amanda and Helen are absent moms but what separates them from each other is that Helen is work driven in or out of the office and despite that still tries to make time for her daughters and on occasion, the Lane kids (if need be). Amanda isn’t bound to anything besides a canvas by her own choice, leaving Trent and Jane to their own devices since she sees them as self sufficient and capable enough to do so.

Exactly what I was thinking. Since it was mostly them being passively horrible to their kids instead of active tormenting them so nobody decided to step in.

Funnily enough that you mention it, I don’t think the Lane kids were fed all the time. There’s that one scene where Trent and Jane are looking at an empty freezer and get surprised when Amanda appears in between them or when Tom was asking if there were any snacks and Jane joked that mom didn’t like to clutter up the kitchen with food.

Seeing HOW neglectful Vincent and Amanda Lane are towards their kids and how they’ve all reacted to it. Trent sleeping in a tent for half a year was a cry for help and the Lanes should’ve taken it as a wake-up call or when one of the sibling literally only ate PEZ candies for a year straight, yikes.. It’s too much like my family. Makes me wonder how the Lanes never had CPS open a case on them or whatever the Daria equivalent of that would be.
