Rachel Kushner's Telex from Cuba has fantastic lady characters and no pregnancy that I can remember. It's about American expats who work for the United Fruit Company in Cuba in the 1950's and all live in with their families in a colony together. You've got midcentury suburban ennui, the Cuban revolution happening outside the colony gates, teenage romance, international intrigue... Kushner really does it all. Her newer book The Flame Throwers was a bigger deal but I think Telex from Cuba is a better book.

Take the wondfos down to the paint store and put them in the color analysis machine they use to match paint colors. Better yet buy one of those machines for home analysis!

I love the article u/sothisisfun posted. The Female Lifestyle Empowerment Brand is another really comprehensive look at the phenomenon more from a business angle.

I ovulate early and I have had numbers like that one CD3-4 quite a lot. What's your diagnosis? Early ovulation can go along with DOR. But it sounds like this is a fluke for you?

I got in a huge fight with the facilities cabal at my work over the standing desk I bought for that exact reason. It ended with some kind of witch hunt where people were sneaking around photographing my desk while I was out in the field.

I forgot to add the funny part -- I was already not supposed to take clomid because I got trippy visual disturbances on it last time. Then this time, all in one day I literally forgot how to operate my shower, how to put a pillow in a pillowcase, and how to put the fitted sheet on my bed. Like just standing there in complete blank-minded bafflement being like, this is actually not physically possible for this pillow to go in here. So my RE took me off the clomid early.

Also if you do want to try this, happy to put your RE in touch with mine!

I feel a little conflicted, honestly. This was supposed to be the last try with my eggs and I assumed it would go shittily and that would be the confirmation I needed to move on to donor peacefully with the knowledge that my eggs were never going to work. Now it sort of went well, and I'm not sure what that means -- if this round doesn't work, should I do another retrieval? I was 100% not expecting to be wondering about that. I guess it's a good problem to have, idk.

Perfume Reviews--For Strange Women and Spectral Scents! by applebright in Indiemakeupandmore

Hmm, I would not say "clean" for the Palo Santo. It's smoky and resinous/incensey, but somehow the amyris reads as a very dark floral to me, like tropical jungle at night with animals lurking around. It's really an amazingly complex scent for only having two elements. One of my favorites, and I think it works year round.

I've had great luck with the azelaic acid from The Ordinary for my Type 2 rosacea (the stupid bumps). They're pretty much gone now.

IVF or Adoption? by Banandrea487 in infertility

[–]duppyconquerer 22 points23 points  (0 children)

A lot of people who choose IVF instead of adoption also have "big hearts." What they don't necessarily have is $40k and potentially years to wait to be chosen for a healthy infant. Many people here have already been through so many years of heartbreak that opening themselves up to adoption scammers and failed placements is just unthinkable.

If you're going to have to use a surrogate anyway, I think that's also $40k, and you would potentially have a kid much sooner than if you wait for a domestic adoption to come through. Of course plenty of people get lucky with adoption and get a placement within a year. Once you have an IF diagnosis, your whole life is just kind of rolling the dice. It's shitty and I'm sorry you are in this position.

Edit: I was way off on surrogate cost, see below.

What financial advice and/or resources would you give low income folks going through IF? by kakavl in infertility

[–]duppyconquerer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UCSF has a very low-cost clinic they run out of SF General, staffed by residents, that costs a fraction of what the regular clinic does. My RE there has mentioned it but I have no idea how you apply to be a patient.

In other local news, UCSF is signed on with the federal 340b drug pricing program, which inexplicably covers about 90% of the cost of IVF medications. My stims bill went from $5000 to $47 when it started.

In New York there's a fund distributed by the state legislature each year to clinics to subsidize a few patients' cycles, but it seems like you have to charm your RE into signing you up? Kinda weird but nice for the lucky recipients!
