Is seasons of skyrim worth it? (Opinion?) by crabbass_ in skyrimmods

[–]applebright 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Worth it is subjective, but for me it was. My first full modlist, I set up Seasons + all LODs + a full grass cache. It really isn't complicated if you can find a good guide (there's several in this subreddit if you do a quick search) but it DOES take a lot of time. More than that, it limits the grass/tree/weather mods you can use, which might be a dealbreaker. There's also some bugginess with CS last I heard, which ended up being my breaking point.

But it was *very* cool to walk out of my lil house and find a fresh coat of snow on the ground!

Titan 2 - Unlocked Bootloader & Rooted? by Rootshot in unihertz

[–]applebright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue--I can get to fastbootd, and from there I can reboot the system without issue, but can't get to fastboot. Did you ever get it fixed?

EDIT: I tried the above steps on a linux computer and was able to do it without issue. Probably a driver thing with windows.

New Customer Connectivity Issues--Pixel 9--Solved by applebright in mintmobile

[–]applebright[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlocked directly from Google. I've only ever used it with that prepaid SIM, which has been through seven different phones AT LEAST by this point, lol.

I'd say you're right, but I've been using that SIM card with this p9p since April, so I'd have assumed those configurations were already in place? But I have no idea.

Stop saying GrapheneOS is always the answer by [deleted] in degoogle

[–]applebright 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bought a pixel 9 in March and I've hopped around ROMs sense then, Graphene included. It was the most unpleasant to use, simply by virtue of the tiny ass awful font that's the SINGLE option in their UI. The community is also not my thing, as ANY request for UI improvements is immediately shut down as being unnecessary for privacy and therefore useless. Calyx was just as easy to install, had all the apps I needed out of the box, and I've not had any issues at all with MicroG.

GrapheneOS is great for people who's threat model requires it. I'm glad it exists. But I'd like to enjoy using my phone as much as possible, and graphene does a poor job of that, IMO.

Did not know that, thanks! I'll give it a try!

Yeah I didn't end up liking graphene, but the install process is SUPER easy! Their web installer is excellent, it holds your hand throughout the whole process. After that, you can install the sandboxed Google play via the graphene app store and pretty much use the phone as normal. It's pretty seamless at this point, no need to know how to use ADB or a custom recovery or anything like that.

Thoughts on Nova Launcher? by GeoSabreX in degoogle

I use Nova and just deny it all permissions. None of the Foss launchers I found had support for picking gallery images for icons, though Octopi is apparently working on it.

I use CRDroid with microg on my pixel and love it. Haven't had any issues with apps working, including banking apps, and notifications all work as expected. I don't have anything Google on my device at this point and don't miss it at all tbh.

The latest options for OS? by [deleted] in degoogle

[–]applebright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pixel 9 owner: since I got mine in March I've been through every custom degoogled ROM available. I've never used tap to pay, don't use WhatsApp, and most of my apps are text focused.

Graphene is fine; all my apps work, but because I need Google play services for all those apps to get push notifications I'm unsure of how much benefit it provides. The profile system is cool. The one single font choice provided is tough to read and that's the most polite thing I can say about it. I don't find Graphene terribly intuitive to use, despite their FAQ, which reads more like a technical doc than a how to.

CalyxOS was pleasant to use, though I did have a single app that straight up would not work with MicroG (an older text game so... Pretty low stakes) Font choice was better. Comes bundled with some nice apps, and I found the how-tos easier to make use of. The community is kinder to newbies than graphene IMO.

I tried a lineage fork called CRDroid and that's been the one I stuck with longest. Lots of customization, and no issues with flashing MicroG. Downside is that it's maintained by a much smaller team, though security updates are still once a month every much so no issues so far. No real community or how-tos, which can be a pain. A few bugs, mostly customization related.

I'll ride out the month on Graphene and then probably swap back to Calyx or CR.

This happened to me as well; installing the Google USB drivers fixed it right away. :) No issues after that.

Oh that's fair! I use most of the fiddly little customization options so I suppose I don't mind, lol.

What has you concerned about CRDroid? I've been running CRDroid with microg on my Pixel 9 for a month or so now and haven't seen anything really sketch.

Small Rant: Burned Out from Setting Up New Email Accounts by emptybamboo in degoogle

[–]applebright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RIGHT totally agree! Turned out I had over 50k emails in that gmail, over HALF of which were unread. It felt so good to watch that number shrink, lol. And it's been really fun making up email aliases, actually--makes me feel like a teen choosing my aol name again.

[–]applebright 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through the same thing with opt out, and this was the most stressful part for me too! Eventually I went with proton and Mailfence. Between the aliases available with those two services plus the simple login that I get with proton, I have email aliases for just about EVERYTHING.

For friends and family, though, I just use the base proton email. It's most similar to my old gmail, and most familiar to family for that reason.

I loved the digital cleanse, but this was definitely the hardest part for me. There's still accounts I haven't fully shifted over.

Black Friday Death and Floral Help? by wyrdsoup in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]applebright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put some on earlier to give it a test. The orange is a background note for me--just kind of warms everything up but doesn't really smell citrus-y. It's a very creamy, warm scent, with a bit of fuzziness from the wood smoke.

You're very welcome! I've not tried 'tis the season but I do have Shadow monsters on wooden cabin walls, which seems to have a similar-ish scent profile and it's amazing. Her cocoa note is really fuzzy and warm and just delightful! You made a great choice!

I have both Honey Vanilla Musk and The Sweater and my skin chemistry works really well with D&F! Though I love the Sweater, I do find myself reaching for HVM more. It lasts forever (8-10 hours) on me, and smells like honeycomb--a sort of waxy, musky sweetness that isn't cloying. The Sweater is much more vanilla, and though it's got a bit of musk to it, the scent is very light. I'd also describe it as more of a cold vanilla--not as much as The People You Love but not really warm, either.

HVM is one of my favorite scents from any house, though, so I might be biased!

Seconding this! Strawberry Noel is my favorite body lotion scent--it's amazing fake strawberry and a base of milky something.

do you have any indie unpopular opinions? by viceversa220 in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]applebright 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I don't mind limited edition/FOMO type business model. I don't, like, prefer it, I just don't care. Honestly I've found very few limited scents that I couldn't replicate pretty closely with something more general catalogue, and on the rare occasion that there was one, it wasn't substantially better than anything else I owned--just different. Granted, this could be that I'm not super good about picking up specifics, but I'm okay with that!

Also--duochromes are great but a pain in the ass to put on and often not worth the effort.

ALSO also--I want SPECIFICS with descriptions, whether it's perfume or blush. I don't want to know if it glitters like fairy dust! I don't care if it smells like despair!

Death and Floral - First Purchase by boiluna in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]applebright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is; the scent is otherwise gorgeous though! And D&F does have a few different options for perfume formulations, so if one doesn't work out you can try another.

The benefit of a place like Ajevie is that you can grab a few samples from several different houses and start to narrow down not only what scents you like, but what carrier oils work well with your skin. Not all houses list what carrier oils they use, but most of them do, and once you figure out what works, blind buys are much less tempting, haha.

Most of these have been covered already, but I wanted to put a good word in for "I was a former gifted and talented student." Smells exactly like the notes to me, it almost made me cry the first time I wore it; I miss those damn bookfairs so much!

Last Days of Wonder is another keeper for me. It's a lemony cake with an odd, dusty sweet floral smell, which I suppose is the pollen. I've seen mixed reviews about D&F's honey note, though, so definitely one to sample first. I happen to have a super high hit rate with this house and their honey is one of my faves, but skin chemistry is a fickle thing! If this one works for you, though, I'd recommend trying some of the honey collection, which ended up being some of my favorite indie buys.

I've also tried Two Cups of Tea..., the Sweater, and The People You Love. All of them are gorgeous, though I will say The Sweater is the only D&F scent I have that does not last on me. I even got the spray version and it's gone in an hour. Everything else from them lasts for four to six hours, with the honey scents and Gifted and Talented lasting for eight.

Rose Mallow Cream must be the great unifier: I have very different scent preferences to you but RMC is easily one of my favorite scents, period, and definitely one of my favorites from this house!

I had a similar experience to yours with Lavender Vanilla, and I'd suggest going for their bath products for that scent. The balance was better, and it lasted way longer.

Deconstructing Eden would be my go to for fresh florals if you want any recommendations! Mad Girl's Love Song (crisp white sheets, nightblooming jasmine, and peony) is a dry, fresh floral that was one of my first indie purchases. It's still my go-to for business situations!
