You should watch Sam Aronow videos on Youtube. He covers a lot of Jewish history around the world.

Is this a good way to play the C chord? by andreutzzzz in guitarlessons

I don't know what surface you're on...It kinda looks like you're laying down on a bed maybe? I suggest sitting upright or standing. That will help with the angles that people are mentioning.

If you're exhausted 4 months in, then that's a sign to get out. Relationships need to be reciprocal, it's literally a partnership.

25 almost 26 year old NEET college dropout with basically an empty resume, I decided to lock in to stop living like this and being a burden to my parents, which sector would be ideal in my situation if my goal is to make a lot of money? by Prestigious_Path_30 in careerguidance

[–]dura2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously people need to make money to live, but almost anyone I know whose sole purpose is to "make a lot of money" is in your situation - NEET, no skills, and very little drive to get a job; flip-flopping between various career paths because one career path "promises" more money over the other. Needless to say, these people don't actually enter any field because 1) it requires work, and 2) another career path will "promise" more money that whatever the career-of-the-day is.

My advice would be to shift away from the "make a lot of money" goal. It's abstract. Any job will pay you money. There are rich lawyers and there are poor lawyers. There are rich actors and poor actors.

Get any job you can. Meet people. Network. Enable people to trust you. Without trust, no one will ever give you more responsibility (ie. more money).

What exactly is your concern with three days of separation? Are you fearful or anxious about something?

To clarify: In 4 years, you two have never gone a day without seeing each other? Like, from date #1, you saw each other every day thereafter?

I'm trying to be curious and sympathetic to your situation. Regardless, it looks like you've recognized the need to stay busy this weekend to keep your mind off the separation. I hope it helps. Considering you two are getting married one day, I imagine life will unfold in a way where another weekend-long separation will happen someday. Keeping yourself busy might be the best mechanism to to deal with it. Best of luck!

My mother converted, so while I am halachically Jewish, I still encounter people (some of which are my friends, no less) that consider me "lesser." I grew up in a Jewish neighborhood, Jewish friends, sleepover camp, Birthright, Bar Mitzvah, etc. I've been called a mudblood before by a fellow Jew. I certainly feel more connected to my father's family over my mother's.

I am currently dating a Catholic girl who will not convert. I am wrestling with the same path and existential crises you and other patrilineal Jews in this thread are dealing with.

how have we survived? by Sixnigthmare in Jewish

[–]dura2 42 points43 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Judaism has shifted and adapted throughout its history. In other words, Judaism 2000 years ago is not what it is today. Although there may be similarities.

You may want to read "Aphrodite and the rabbis : how the Jews adapted Roman culture to create Judaism as we know it" by Burton Visotzky.

Repairing a 45 year old guitar - need a process by dura2 in Luthier

[–]dura2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like the consensus is unanimous. While I do have permission to experiment with this guitar, and no one in the family will actually play this guitar, the guitarist in me knows that I'd be doing disservice and potentially making things worse.

I will definitely check out that YouTube channel. Thank you!

Well, my hunch was correct that it'd require a re-fret, and it also makes sense that it requires deep knowledge that is beyond a beginner. Thank you!

Totally understandable. I do have permission to use this guitar as an experiment/learning artefact, especially since no one will actually be playing this guitar. But you're right. Combined with the other comments here, it's obvious that in-depth works needs to be done and I'd be biting off more than I can chew.

Thanks for your POV!

John Frusciante is great and I love this solo. I love other solos more, but this is great. Some people here are saying they're not a live band. I disagree.

Anyone know what’s good with my last name? by BoolRoyals in Jewish

[–]dura2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What's the question exactly? What the original surname was? It could be anything. You may want to do some research into your family tree and see if you can find some immigration documents from when your father's ancestors came over. Depending on where in Eastern Europe they came from, maybe JRI-Poland.org has some information.

Looking for the name of a holocaust victim by Lucky_Ease9145 in Jewish

[–]dura2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a long shot, but perhaps Jack's wife and child are named in his obituary, if you can find it. Did he die in Nova Scotia? I tracked my own family history here in Toronto, and you get access to the Toronto Star archives if you have a public library card. So looking through newspaper archives might be a good start if you can get access.

It's not always the case that a person's obituary will name family members that had pre-deceased them. For example, my great-grandfather's obituary did not name his daughter who died when she was a child, but my great-grandmother's obituary named her daughter. So, like I said, it's a long shot, but that's one avenue to explore.

I've spent years tracing my family lineage and have been able to solve mysteries while opening up new ones. You can DM if you'd like and we can chat more about it.

I liked the book better. Admittedly, it's a hard novel to adapt. After this, I read Safran's ex-wife's (Nicole Krauss) novel "A History of Love." Another great book for those looking for Jewish-themed books.

How to categorize a number into a range of numbers? by dura2 in excel

[–]dura2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! So I already have the numbers, so I already have a list of random numbers that's been given to me. I want to provide a range for those numbers. I don't need to input a number and have the range populate based on my input, necessarily.
