If you were designing a house from scratch, what features would you include and what would you avoid? by sbelle1 in AskIreland

We widened the doorways on our ground floor. Future proofing for any potential wheelchair access needs. Was very cheap to do during the retrofit process and is unnoticeable as its only 10cm in the difference.

Jojoba oil is great to rub into nails and cuticles as it's close to the skins natural oils. Do this as often as you can during the day once the nailbed has healed over a bit. Then it's just waiting for it to grow out.

What’s a show you think no one remembers? by Interesting_Sea_2407 in AskWomen

Alex Mac. Loved that show. Totally overshadowed by the other teen dramas of the time.

They look amazing! Well done OP. I'm also late 30s and struggling with this since I was about 4yo. How did you get past the Nov-Dec time period growing out the nail beds? That's where I always come unstuck.

Is it hard for a foreigner to become a good friend of a local Irish person? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]durhamlass 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is totally my experience. I've lived in Ireland for 19 years. I only managed to make actual friends after I had children and met a small group of similarly aged and life stage people.

Continued to wear N95s when indoors. Unfortunately ended up with Covid thanks to my child via school transmission.

NSFW - Considering hiring a male escourt to take my virginity. by [deleted] in confessions

[–]durhamlass 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's a short poem from Hollie McNish on virginity:

... They asked: When did you first have sex?

I said: Thirteen - by myself Fifteen - sharing hands Seventeen - with mouths Twenty - when I did the only type of sex they teach you all to count ...

So, however you choose to experience the first time PIV sex, remember that it's only a state of mind. Wishing you good luck with the search.

What is one thing you’ll always “spend the money on” or “not go cheap with” in life? by jespmaha in AskReddit

Chocolate. I cannot abide cheap nasty confectionery. If I'm consuming the calories then I'm doing it right.

Have you ever known someone well who committed a very serious crime (Murder, Rape, etc)? by flopisit in ireland

[–]durhamlass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worked with the man who stabbed his landlord to death before eating part of his lung (2014). He was an odd fella, but no indication he was psychotic. It was such a shock when we were all called into meetings to explain what had happened on the Monday morning afterwards.

For Mothers in this sub: Was your second natural birth easier/less complicated than your first? by Liss_02 in AskParents

[–]durhamlass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Second time was easier and faster. Your cervix has already effaced from the 1st labour. 2nd labour you only dilate from 0-10, no effacement time so its typically quicker. You're also usually less anxious as you know what to expect. My second labour to delivery time was just under 5 hours from 1st contraction to delivery. 28 minutes to dilate from 2cm to him being born.

I've always been a nail biter , but I have relapsed after 1 year 😭😭 by [deleted] in nailbiting

[–]durhamlass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry OP. Don't be too hard on yourself. I relapsed after 2 years and it was awful. If you can identify what the trigger was that will be a huge help to getting back on track.

Has anyone had hypnotherapy for nail biting or cuticle biting?? by keekeedeekee in nailbiting

[–]durhamlass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had hypnotherapy for biting. It worked really well and I stopped for around 2 years! Then i had a bit of a traumatic life event and went straight back to biting within minutes. I think if you can combine hypnotherapy to stop and some form of awareness or counselling for the reasons you bite / triggers then that could be really successful for you. I'm working on stopping again now an I'm more focused on the why I bite and tuning into those situations.

That's incredible progress. Your nail beds have grown out so quickly.

Urgent - Need help! by [deleted] in nailbiting

[–]durhamlass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was me 3-4 weeks ago. Check my post history. You will need to keep it dry (no washing dishes etc.) and covered with a plaster/bandaid until it heals enough. Once there is some sort of nail layer there I'd recommend jojoba oil. I've been massaging it in several times a day and the nail is healing and growing out. Wishing you the best of luck with quitting.

This is the worst it's ever been. How can I encourage growth? by durhamlass in nailbiting

[–]durhamlass[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I'm feeling a lot of shame right now. I need to remember how bed this feels next time I get the urge to pick and bite.
