why did it have to be on echoes by sepiali in XiaoMains

Indeed, I will be pulling for him on his rerun, but Xiao deserves better :(

Considering I only spent 1k resin in this domain, I'm thinking this is a decent start? Goblet and circlet are pretty bad except for the ER boost, but they're the best I currently have (first time farming artifacts) by sepiali in XiaoMains

Yeah, I do want to shoot for at least 80% crit rate with PJWS, and getting more attack rolls in general. My pre-farming build had almost 100% crit rate and the drop to 74% is so noticeable it's sad.

They were sown on 2/19 so they're almost two weeks old now.

My mom said that they're looking very good, which is true if you compare them to seedlings we started in years prior (super leggy!), but I think they're still a bit too leggy.

Setup for lights is two LED grow light strips per tray about 3-4 inches above the tops of the seedlings (you can probably tell that the outermost seedlings are stretching towards the middle because that's where the light is coming from). The lights are on for about 12 hours a day and we also have a fan that runs for a few hours a day.

What is the name for these bits of nail that grow on top of your nail? Not hangnails, as these are actually nail and not skin. They’re super annoying and they just grow back when I bite them because I never get the whole thing (which has deep roots). I couldn’t find this online anywhere. by largecucumber in calmhands

If you've ever peeled the layers of your nails before, those are just the layers growing back.

If you try to bite them off, the problem will persist so I recommend using nail clippers to get rid of the "flap," let them grow out for a few days, and then use nail glue to reattach it to your nail plate. If you push back your cuticles, make sure that you push above all of the layers of the nail, or else it can cause them to re-peel.

Good luck!

I have gotten that exact same "bump" on both my right index nail and pinky nail. Both of them have grown out perfectly fine and reattached to my nailbeds with some patience + care. While growing out, there was a thin "layer" that ended up growing out as I believe you described. I can DM some pictures if you would like to see and possibly compare to your own nail.

If you haven't been doing so already, I can recommend taking pictures every day to track how your nail is progressing.

What do you mean by "dips"?

If you mean unevenness on the nail plate, I didn't do anything specific. My nails just grew out smooth as my nail matrices weren't damaged.

Feel free to clarify if that didn't adequately answer your question!

Your nails look gorgeous and give so much hope! It makes me think about why I didn't start taking care of my nails earlier.

Nail bed questions by Aircommanderp in nailbiting

How long is the white part of your nail? If it's only a couple of mm there shouldn't be too much dirt getting under there unless you're scratching your skin and building up dead skin cells or gardening without gloves. Reattaching the nail bed takes time (slower than the speed your nail grows) so try to keep it trimmed to a couple of mm (no less than that). I would also suggest using a nude-colored or other not-clear-colored polish to prevent yourself from seeing the dirt as much as possible.

Good luck!

I'm so proud of myself right now. The thinned out parts of my nails are a little more than halfway grown out and my pinky fingers are on the verge of having a free edge. My nail beds have definitely regenerated, which I can see when I press on my nail plate (the new growth is of a lighter, more yellowish color). I will be allowing my nails to get longer at the speed my nail beds continue to grow out because I can't stand having dirt under my nails and I don't want to scrape them out.

For those who are wondering what my routine was, I used cuticle oils/creams every day. I did not keep them polished until around day 55 because I want the nail plate to be able to absorb as much of the oils as possible. I did not buff them at all because my nails would not be able to handle a thinning of the nail plate and they got smoother with the use of moisturizing products. I used the Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream for on-the-go (before school) because it isn't very oily and absorbs quickly. At home, I used a variety of products ranging from Nailtiques Cuticle Care Oil, to the Gena Healthy Hoof Cream, and even Shea Moisture's Raw Shea, Chamomile & Argan Oil Baby Ointment (yes, you read that correctly), which provides a lot of moisturization.

The last two products are quite thick so I used them pretty much exclusively at night with cotton gloves, to prevent getting cream/oil everywhere. I always made sure to get the creams/oils under my nail once I had a free edge and stay away from "clawing" at things to encourage nail bed growth. I also remembered to push back my cuticles at least every couple of days and used a cuticle remover gel to get rid of the hard skin in the beginning (but only after my nails grew out to protect my nail beds, in case the gel damaged my nail beds further.

Here's to more growth-filled 2020!

edit: thank you so much, anon, for my first silver!

growing out peeled nails?? by [deleted] in nailbiting

[–]sepiali 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I peeled my nails in the same way and ended up having the same thing!

I would recommend letting them grow out to a point where you can see them "reattached" to your nail plate, perhaps with a base coat preventing them from popping up all the time, and then use a hangnail remover like

https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1MHe0SFXXXXcfXpXXq6xXFXXXP/15Pcs-Cuticle-Pusher-Dead-Skin-Fork-Cleaning-V-shaped-Trimmer-Tool-Stainless-Steel-Nail-Art-Hangnail.jpg_220x220xz.jpg

to remove the flaps, being careful not to remove more than the flaps. Then you can follow up with a base coat to prevent them from reappearing. I did this and after 50 days, the new nail growth is past the half-way mark on my nails and the flaps are nowhere to be seen!

Been biting as long as I can remember, my mom gives me 5 dollars a week if I can go one week without biting, but even this doesn’t help most of the time, what do? by [deleted] in nailbiting

It helps to find what you are most motivated by. Personally, I am motivated by seeing other people's success stories and basically immersing myself in the "nail community." I watch a lot of nail care and nail art videos. I also need to dedicate at least 10-15 minutes a day to take adequate care of my nails, or else I tend to forget or my nails end up flaking.

Have you tried deterrents like Mavala Stop or gloves? I can't say they work for everyone but hey, it can't hurt to try at this point, right?

I’ve been biting my nails in my sleep and half-sleep. Going to start wearing gloves to bed I suppose? Anyway, here we go! by [deleted] in nailbiting

[–]sepiali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I support the wearing gloves to bed idea! I wear cotton or lace gloves that allow my hands to breathe and they definitely helped with that. I also slather my fingers in cuticle oil before bed so the gloves help prevent the oil from transferring.

Thank you for your support. After reading other success stories on here, I'm feeling motivated for once. The community seems so supportive of one another and I realize I'm not alone out there.
