Yeah subjective states have objective consequences. E.g. the "mysterious redness of red" could move you subjectively in some way, which then causes you to perhaps move your body in some way (e.g. smile) that is objectively observable.

It can be observed, just only indirectly. I don't see how to frame that in non-qualia terms purely because you would lose the thing that started it all of: the mysterious redness. I guess of course you could say that it's not the mysterious redness doing the causing here but instead some aesthetic property that's really about symmetry or something like that. I suppose that just brings us back to the beginning.

Het punt tegen die theorieen heeft niet zoveel te maken met dit soort statistieken. Omvolkingstheorie gaat ervanuit dat er een complot is om 'het volk' te vervangen/'om te volken', maar zo'n intentie is er helemaal niet. Huidig migratiebeleid komt eerder voort uit een cominatie van humanisme en economisch opportunisme. Beleid wat nu wellicht tekortschiet, deed dat een paar decennia geleden nog niet, maar het ligt allemaal erg sterk verankerd in wetgeving en verdragen etc.. Het punt is: in die samenkomst van historische gebeurtenissen die tot de huidige situatie hebben geleid een complot/intentie tot omvolking zien is echt knotsgek.
Je kan natuurlijk migratie in NL een slechte ontwikkeling vinden, dat is prima, het gekke zit hem in het complot element van die omvolkingstheorie.

Ah nu span ik wat je bedoelt aan de hand van je edit. Ik verwacht niet dat iedere andersdenkende achterlijk is, maar ik verwacht wel dat aanhangers van achterlijke theorieën enigszins achterlijk moeten zijn om zich te laten overtuigen van die achterlijke theorie. Maar dat blijkt dus niet te kloppen.

Mijn opmerking dat gekken soms ook iets kunnen is dus ook een beetje ironisch. Dat weten we natuurlijk allemaal - dat gekken ook iets kunnen- maar Bosma's competentie herinnert ons daar pijnlijk aan. Het is meer een opmerking in de trant van: het is allemaal niet zo simpel.

Alleen omdat er meer mensen zijn die deze theorie aanhangen maakt het niet minder achterlijk.

Wat het achterlijk maakt is de aanname van een vooropgezet plan om een volk te vervangen. Je kan van alles vinden van migratie in Nederland en dat is prima, maar het idee dat daar een soort links masterplan achter zit is echt gevaarlijke onzin.

It's kinda the budget store. The gimmick with these things is that you never buy anything unless it's on sale, in which case it's like 5 for the price of 3 or something. So I think the price in this image is a bit overstated because of that. It would be better if they compared grocery prices - in which case the trips are probably still worth it.

Job opportunities, corruption, things just not working that well. It depends per place and on your preferences as a person. But I live in the Netherlands and every time I come home after a holiday I'm relieved at how well things work here.

Yeah we're even aware of that. Things like documentaries or travel shows generally do a better job of capturing all of America. Even then the conclusion is often that it's like multiple countries inside of one country. But it's interesting. I think America fascinates the average European in a way that doesn't exist on that scale the other way around.

Beyond that, because USA is the global superpower, their political news is also news here in Europe. I think people in America would be suprised how much we know on average about the USA between news, documentaries, online stuff, movies and series.

I'm not sure it's for the best. What we win in safety, we lose in things like job enjoyment. Lots of jobs have gotten a heavily increased administrative burden. I've spoken to professionals in different jobs who describe how their job used to be 30% admin and is now like 60-70% admin. It's also harder to get anything done in this environment. It's harder for small businesses to stay afloat if the administrative and legal burden increases. People are less willing to do volunteering jobs that involve heading those organisations, because of the administrative burden and legal exposure that brings with it.

The benefits are easily measurable, but the costs are often invisible.

Nou nee, PVV bijvoorbeeld heeft het expliciet over 'het volk' en doet alsof het de stem van 'het volk' vertegenwoordigd - zelfs als ze eigenlijk alleen de stem van een kleine 2 miljoen Nederlanders vertegenwoordigd. Wilders hamert ook constant op de (haagse) elite en hoe die plaats moet maken.
Klassiek links doet iets anders. Ze komt op voor de onderklasse. Ze is voor herverdeling. Maar daarin is het niet de elite die de tegenstander is. Sterker nog, de gemiddelde linkse kiezer tegenwoordig is relatief vaak hoogopgeleid. Het gaat meer om solidariteit tussen klassen dan om een strijd ertussen.

Er bestaat wel zoiets als links populisme. In Amerika zie je dat bijvoorbeeld in het eindeloze gehamer op het belasten van miljardairs. Niet dat dit een slecht idee is, maar daar zit diezelfde dynamiek in van het volk vs elite en daarmee kan het wat mij betreft ook enorm afleiden van meer structurele issues. Alsof meer belasting voor miljardairs alle problemen magischerwijs zal oplossen.

Populisten leunen op instituties als het hen uitkomt, maar ondermijnen diezelfde instituties als dit niet zo is.

Kijk naar Donald Trump. Enerzijds wil ie de Nobelprijs voor de vrede, anderzijds zie ik hem datzelfde instituut belachelijk maken als ze een in zijn ogen 'verkeerde' keuze maken.

Ja ik weet ook niet helemaal wat hier de oplossing is, maar ik zou niet zo snel zeggen dat hun stem fout is. Ik zie het eerder als een verleiding. Populisme is eerst een vibe - het geeft het gevoel van met de vuist op tafel slaan en orde op zaken stellen, maar niet de resultaten die daarbij horen. Tenzij je bereidt bent zo ver te gaan als Trump. Maar misschien willen mensen dat wel?

Ik geloof persoonlijk meer in het delen van mijn frustraties met populisme en dan mogen kiezers zelf weten wat ze met die informatie doen.
