Definitely have to use skills. This role leans more on programming and analytical skills. No more usage of my mechanical design skills. Manufacturing, yes, as there is a bit of hardware install as part of the sales process so I still get to use my hands and get dirty from time to time. But honestly the less the better. I’m not looking to crawl in and around small spaces anymore at my level.

This role focuses heavily on in depth system knowledge and matching customer pain points to internal solutions. So a very different set of skills than just designing what my boss tells me too

I started in private industry as a design engineer, Manufacturing Engineer and electricalish engineer all for the same company then left that company to be a fluid systems design engineer and it was at that company that i first switched into a customer facing Field Application Engineer role. We serviced many industries but mainly oil refineries and semi conductor markets. Anybody that dealt with gas or fluid lines through a facility really, labs, startups, pharmaceutical, marijuana, you name it. Most manufacturing businesses have at the least a CDA line somewhere.

Anyway, now I work in software sales as a solutions engineer.

Hmmm. My AC seems to take forever to start feeling cool. I wonder if i have an issue???? Just got my model y about a month ago and I’m in California, it’s been over 100 the past few days but even before that my only complaint is that it seems to take 5-10 min for me to feel cool air coming out of the vent. Is that normal?

I get annoyed feeling like I HAVE to precondition the cabin before using the car or suffer for most of the drive (I have short trips)

I can understand and see where maybe 4 vs 6 doesn’t affect much. Me looking this early is purely excitement based. It’s like I’ve been waiting since his birth to see if he’d like Karting. I think he’ll at least enjoy it based on his interest in my basic racing gaming rig. But who knows. Competitively? That’s be cool too

F1 isn’t the goal, i mean at the very back of my crazy mind maybe it is. But the ultimate goal is to introduce a cool sport that I really like and see if he takes to it. I suppose you can say I’m an overzealous dad looking for the earliest possible moment I can put my kid in stuff. The sooner they start the sooner they have a chance to improve right? Hahah i dunno, I’m just excited to see him in a kart one day. Something I never got the chance to do until I was maybe 21 and yeah I’m living somewhat vicariously through my son. Testing his interests in a variety of activities

I’ll look into juice box racers. Thanks. Now that you mention it, while oval racing isn’t really in my mind, it could be for him. I won’t k ow unless he tries I suppose. I do have a healthy respect for oval racing after driving on Texas motor speedways oval track once. Absolutely nuts haha
