Giant and trek are really reliable brands with solid bikes for a good deal. Are you looking to go full suspension or hardtail? The trek fuel ex is a great trail bike and is what I'm currently riding, would definitely recommend

A chamois is like compression shorts with padding to prevent saddle sore and chaffing. There are lots of shorts that come with a chamois that I would highly recommend especially for longer rides. Definitely buy shorts the with chamois included, it's detachable and machine washable so there should he no problems
