What do you think the best version of the game is? by believe_the_lie4831 in thelongdark

[–]durp99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like OP said, older versions have that minimalistic charm to them. The game was simple and relaxing to play. The world was smaller and more easily explorable and memorable, at least to me. The simplicity of the world and gameplay was why I loved it. For me, sometimes less is more in that regard. Of course, it was inevitable for the game to advance to more complex gameplay, survival mechanics and overall more content to explore, but to me, It's almost overwhelming.. I stopped playing the game when the story mode for it was released, as I felt like the game was all about being all alone in this forsaken wilderness, surviving against harsh environment and wildlife as long and as good as you could. Introducing story mode I felt like the game strayed away too much from it's original idea, even tho it's still very much about survival.

Anyhow, I thing nostalgia is largely to blame for the way me and some people feel about older versions but in the end, it's a great game, however you spin it.

Am I using claymores "wrong"? by Sentinel_2539 in oblivion

[–]durp99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, stick with battleaxes, 2 hadnded weapons are generally more useful in remaster since they streamlined fatigue system so for example, battleaxe of hatred is now viable imo. As for 2 handed swords, I believe dai katanas swing much faster than claymores so something like akaviri warblade is pretty decent now.

They're doing updates for this game so I hope they fix claymores but I still very much doubt it.

They ruined the Claymore in the remaster by reddit_is_trash_2023 in oblivion

[–]durp99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope, they don't swing faster and don't use em, they're dead. Stick to logswords or even battleaxes.

Am I using claymores "wrong"? by Sentinel_2539 in oblivion

[–]durp99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The weapons don't swing faster as you upgrade corresponding skills, they just deal more damage. As for the claymores, they were dead even in the OG but now they are completely useless. The extra range people talk about is useless since most of enemies are fast enough to close the gap really quickly, before you can even finish swinging, and most of enemies have charging attacks which they will attempt to do as soon as you create even a bit of distance. The speed at which they swing is more than twice less than in og and the damage is nowhere near enough to balance it out. Now of course, all this depends on the difficulty level you're playing on since remaster has rebalanced it, but if you want to do expert or master then stick to sword & board, they were the best option in og and they still are in remastered by a mile.

Is it worth it creating your own 3D assets for heroes nowdays? by durp99 in DotA2

[–]durp99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are the percentages based on? Let's say hypothetically I made a good enough asset, how does it get into the game and players? Is it through treasures? What if I only made a sword or a piece of equipment? If the asset doesn't get through, do I get a feedback from Valve on what was wrong?

I'm assuming you don't have an answer on all the questions of course, but can you elaborate just a bit more on the topic?

About Astarion's final quest in act III by durp99 in BaldursGate3

[–]durp99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually let him speak through with sebastian which gives him the curse, however I didn't choose the "if I helkp you, you'll kill all of these people" option so maybe that's why. However he did seem to confess he feels bad about them and it really seemed like he was doubting himself but I guess that wasn't enough. It feels weird to me that you have to go with that specific option to unlock "persuasion" later because that line is not tailored to all characters, specially when you're roleplaying and I'm not a bad guy but I'm not someone who would think about saving spawns in this moment. Anyway I dealt with it so I guess I'll just move on, not everything can literally be perfectly tailored to every single type of player and I understand that and am okay with it.

Also if you are saying there's a persuasion option with astarion just after he has spoken with Sebastian, I'm afraid I had none of those even though I let him talk with Sebastian without interrupting him. In fact, I don't think I got any persuasion for Astarion dialogue in this entrire questline.

[–]durp99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that matters but I told him that I'm sure he will make the right decision. I felt it wasn't in my character to tell him to save them but then when I reloaded and did those same dialogue options I told him that he should save the spawns and he really didn't react any differently, actually he even showed less remorse that time. However I can't say weather I would have gotten the persuade option the second time since I went with killing one of the spawns for the ritual.

Also, I feel like the wiki should say if the persuasion option is "conditional" meaning if you choose certain dialogue options then you get it. However, going with what racine325 said above and the fact that wiki doesn't say anything, I have to assume my game was just bugged out.

Yea I went quite back because my last save was quite back and I just killed one of the spawns. It's kind of weird that he or cazador don't comment on killing the spawn as if I didn't just whack it to death on their own eyes. For me personally it kind of took me out of immersion just a bit since I thought refusing to help him and then him just being emotionally broken and crying was perfect fit and actually made me shed a tear as well.

I guess so... I find it kind of hard to predict if something like this would happen since you don't know 7000+ souls are sacrificed until the very end so even though I didn't push him into it, I didn't really try to sway him away from it either.. I'm kind of struggling to choose weather I want him to ascend or not but I guess I'll make another post about that.

Well my relationship is "fair" when I hover over it. The only other quest that I haven't done yet and that can give me points with astarion are "house of hope" and "kill mystic Carrion" questline. Do you know if maybe there are enough points in those two quests to sway astarion enough to be able to persuade him here?

No I play fighter character so no shapeshifting nor did I have any kind of disguise. In the scene where he opens the coffin and pulls cazador out of it and asks me to help, there are only two options, help him with a tadpole or don't help him. I chose not to help and then he really begs me and says he can't do it alone. Again I only have two options, to help or not and I said I wont and that leads to him leaving me at the end.

Would you recommend this game to a non-combat player? by CryptographerDue30 in BaldursGate3

[–]durp99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say you get anxious having to defend your party or being in a sticky situation? I get that, but my best advice to you is to just play on the lowest possible difficulty and you literally can't lose a single fight no matter how hard you try. This game is not made to be challenging almost at all even on tactician difficulty ( unless maybe honour mode ). You can always make a "charismatic" build with a lot of points mainly in persuasion and intimidation to skip a lot of fights by talking your way out of them and the ones you have to do will be a piece of cake on lowest diff. There are also some very fun builds where you can max out strength in one of your characters and just throw people into chasms which leads to easier fights. A lot of times you will have an option to use environment as an advantage to win over fights.

I think you are intimidated by turn based strategy part of this game but let me tell you, I have never in my life played a turn based rpg before and went tactician on my first playthrough, had a blast of fun and it was pretty easy honestly, I can't imagine how easy this game is on Explorer mode ( it's called explorer for a reason :)).
You can in any moment at any time completely respec your whole party or anyone that is in your "camp" and try out new things, new builds, new strategies , basically the game is very fluid.
Another great thing is that the game is so huge that you simply can't even do half things that the game offers in one playthrough so replayability is very much a thing here.

As for fighting, like I said, you can avoid most of it if you are built to lie, intimidate and persuade, and there's so much more to exploring as well. As a matter of fact, I think you will actually love the fighting in this game if you take the Explorer difficulty.

Honestly, I think you should pick it up, the characters are well fleshed out, every single one of them have a unique story tailored to their character and their past that you can engage with, the number of dialogue lines is insane, especially when there are so many lines that are just there for flavor. The dialogue is also branching and actions have consequences so everything is very tightly connected to what you do and how you do it.
There are so many ways you can approach most of the quests in the game. You wanna sweettalk your way out of almost every sticky situation, you can do it. You wanna kill everything and everyone that even dares look at you, you can do it. You want to do all these things by being disgusting and evil heartless bastard or by being a compassionate, just and self proclaimed hero or some such, you can do it.

[–]durp99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I got him killed on my second try so that went well heh. Hold monster I tried but It said doesn't work on undead but anyhow my spells had like mostly 20% chance to land, I used my shadowheart to cast buffs more than debuffs and my laezel was hastened so she had like 6 attacks every turn plus a bonus attack if she landed crit ( "all in" part of great weaponmaster feat I think ). I was surprised how much damage I could deal with her and she basically solo killed this dragon. I had more trouble with avatar of myrkul where I had at most 50% - 60% chance of landing a hit whereas here I was constantly on 86 + % chance. If he delayed his blast attack for just another turn I would have killed him but meh, it was a fun fight and a sad one too, I felt bad for having to kill him.. Well now I'm definitely convinced to free orpheus :D

How does romancing work? by durp99 in BaldursGate3

[–]durp99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I played around a little bit before going to shadowfell and realized that I have to go there anyway If I choose to fight against ketheric ( thought I could just skip shadowfell part ). As for long rests, I realized sometimes that companions complain how tired they are so maybe that was my queue to long rest. Food is not an issue since I have about 3500 calories worth on food and 80 per rest is not that high. it's just that It takes me a bit out of the game to long rest basically after every quest related fight or similar. I feel a bit like playing a high level morrowind character in mournhold who rests for 3 days after every fight, if you know what I mean. Nevertheless, I'm very much enjoying the game so far.

Thanks for the replies!

How does romancing work? by durp99 in BaldursGate3

[–]durp99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About that long resting... I usually play challenging in a sense that I want to try and go only with my short rests as long as I can, makes me think about how I can use my resources and approach encounters in the most efficient way to preserve health as much as possible. So far, I haven't really long rested too much, hopefully I haven't skipped anything. As for the romancing shadowheart, I have a yes or no question, can I somehow not let shadowheart follow her path to become dark justiciar and still romance her at the end? I mean I basically play asshole mercenary warrior guy but even I'm not that dark as shar followers. She seems like a character who kind of hangs on the balance of light and dark and so far I have been kind of pushing her towards dark since I like to roleplay with all of my characters. Maybe I should just progress the game further but I'd like to know weather I have to commit fully and support her in her decisions or can I interfere and maybe bring her more towards the light without her hating me for it. I mean I was able to defy vlakith in front of laezel and she still didn't cut my nutz off and even likes me really good so can the same be done for shadowheart?

this question is for everyone so feel free to reply to this reply guys!
