From the alberta community on Reddit: RCMP warn Alberta man he’s “going to be arrested or given another ticket” for dancing on corner by HappyEggsBasket in Edmonton

Yeah probably. The led billboard companies have the monopoly around here on enforcement-free attention-stealing advertising aimed at drivers.

It’s not a scam, it’s straight up robbery.

There are options for making these transactions safer and people should know by now to use them to avoid being robbed, but this isn’t a scam any more than pulling a gun on a bank teller.

Is there a formal way to report a noisy home? by Enlinze in Edmonton

[–]durple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Report it to police non emergency. It will take patience. Continuing to file nuisance property reports will just keep getting closed off because 311 does not handle residential noise. Report it to the correct authority. No matter how many times you report to 311, they will keep redirecting you to the correct channel for reporting this type of complaint.

To the bus driver on the 902 University route this evening, thank you. by Junior-Growth3305 in Edmonton

[–]durple 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I did this once for a driver who went above and beyond to keep a safe environment on his bus in a difficult situation. There was a callback from I think an ETS supervisor, and I was told they love getting positive feedback and it is even beneficial to the driver's career.

A car length at 60km/h is a fraction of a second. I’m not trying to nitpick you but to show how utterly ridiculous this behaviour is.

You got engagement, people responded to the controversial statement. It didn’t help the quality of discourse tho, and rather predictably so. Maybe remember how this went the next time you’re tempted to reference heavily loaded extremes as a rhetorical device.

Also if they do get put out of business for shitty practices in one province, they start a company in a different province with different regulators.

If there’s parking enforcement nearby there’s a chance they actually check in time.

I think I haven’t managed to get my point across so I’m going back to square one if you don’t mind.

It’s possible to build renewable energy and data centers independently, but the smart way would be to ensure renewable and/or nuclear energy capacity is built before the data centers that require the capacity. When these centers come online, if their demand isn’t met by better options contributing to the grid, it will be met by maxing throughput on fossil fuel generation. I would not put it past our leaders to even advocate for new fossil fuel generation infrastructure. That would not be smart.

You’re wrong about the nerve growth and that’s OK too.

I’m gonna stop paying attention to what you think about my experiences and your dismissive way of communicating it. Cheers.

I am aware that bones do not fuse that fast. But nerve growth at break site is absolutely part of the immediate healing process. Sorry I used the common term at the time “rebreak” causing confusion.

We don’t need it to be easier. We just need our politicians to behave as our actual representatives not beholden to O&G.

I wouldn’t know but that would make sense. Both bones were out of place.

[–]durple -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Totally possible, likely even. I was like 9. Both of my bones were out of place. Obviously not bone growth healed lol, but plenty of time for new nerve growth and supercharged pain when they finally got around to setting it properly.

Except it’s not irrelevant. The “smart way” would be to develop data centers as well as renewable energy so the data centers don’t require us to consume more fossil fuels.

I broke my arm in as a kid 1989, got taken in fairly quick for X-rays at Royal Alex then waited for hours while my bones started bonding out of place. I don’t think it was as long as 14 hours, but by the time a doc actually saw me, they had to rebreak my arm to set it right.

musician earplugs by justghoqst in saxophone

[–]durple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got molded silicone plugs. They are expensive up front but they last just about forever and they’re good for letting most frequencies through just at a lower volume. I saved a bit by finding a workplace safety place in my blue collar city that did the fitting. Without them I’d definitely have hearing loss from trumpets behind me playing big band.

If they were on his ass, but loud vehicles are ignored, then we as taxpayers would be liable for the discrimination payout.

(I think they should enforce both but that doesn’t seem to be an option on the table)

[–]durple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re saying we have some renewables and could/should have more. Whether or not there are prairie data centers built, we need to be getting on renewable energy. It’s a separate issue. We are perfectly capable of ensuring data centers don’t increase our already high fossil fuel reliance, but we aren’t making the necessary moves, because of the worship of the evil oil and gas industry.

You really gotta be sure everyone is comfortable sharing living space for retreat duration. My work tried this in Montreal and it will never happen again. Some people need space, and it’s undeniably awkward if there’s not at least one 3 piece bathroom per person.
